Painting Dog Portraits in Oils

release date: Sep 10, 2023
Painting Dog Portraits in Oils
Over the years, I have taught hundreds of people to paint using a method I developed specifically for my workshops. Students have ranged from professional artists to complete beginners, some that had never even thought of drawing or painting before. I painted for many years in acrylic. I still love acrylics for some subjects, but for others, I definitely want to choose oils. My personal take on those two mediums is that acrylics are harder to do but easier to learn and oils are easier to do but harder to learn! The good news is, with a few simple techniques and some clear instruction, you can circumvent all the pitfalls that normally come with learning to paint in oils and jump right into the easier part! In this book, you will learn: the most important thing to understand when it comes to realism how to begin a painting so that it is ultimately successful how to easily mix the colours you see what supplies to buy and how to use them how to paint fur and other textures how paint eyes that come to life painting backgrounds that work Discover the keys to painting lifelike portraits of dogs with plenty of step-by-step illustrations for every part of the process. Welcome to my Workshop!

The Art of the Working Class

release date: Oct 14, 2021
The Art of the Working Class
Adeline Halvorson has become well known for her life-like acrylic and oil paintings of horses and other animals. Her draft horse paintings have gained particular notoriety and have garnered several significant awards. This book focuses on those paintings, celebrating the connection to and fondness for the everyday working animal. With each painting is a little bit of the story behind the image. In some cases, it is about the artist's experience gathering the photos used as reference. In others, it is discussing the various techniques in the painting. Sometimes it's a story behind the current owner of the picture. Either way, you will gain insight into why the artist has chosen to do that particular painting and why she has included it in this collection. Enjoy this beautiful coffee table book of draft horse images, painted with a love for the animals that helped shape our land.

For the Love of Dogs

For the Love of Dogs
The animals I paint are the everyday workers, the faithful companions. With my paintings I aim for a feeling of connection, of comfort and familiarity. I love to work with colour and shadow, light and texture, all the while keeping in mind that the emotion conveyed and felt by the viewer is my main focus. This has been my passion and my living for over 40 years. I work in Acrylic and in Oils, always realism, but at times highly detailed, at other times, more painterly. I have sold my work in numerous galleries, juried shows and exhibitions in Canada and the US. My paintings are in private and corporate collections in Canada, the United States, and abroad. Awards include: 2014 Outstanding Artistic Achievement Award, Calgary Stampede 2009 and 2012 Best of Show Flatwork Calgary Stampede 2009 People's Choice - Art of the West Show, Kamloops BC 2003 First Place (Acrylics Category) - Draft Horse Classic Art Show - Grass Valley, California 2003 Chosen favorite artist Best of the West Show - Pine Top, Arizona 2001 North American Horseman's Association Equine Artist of Distinction award 1997 First Place (Animal Art Category) over 11,000 international entrants - Artist's Magazine Annual Art Competition
