But as parents, we can get so consumed with our young athletes’ physical development that we miss the opportunities athletics provide to help them grow spiritually. Away Game challenges us to be more than spectators on the sidelines of our kids’ spiritual lives. Discover how to: Leverage sports as a platform for instilling biblical values in kids and teens. A History of Military Morals

release date: Apr 25, 2022
A History of Military Morals
The history of noncombatant immunity is well established. What is less understood is how militaries have rationalized violating this immunity. This book traces the development of how militaries have rationalized the killing of the innocent from the thirteenth century onward. In the process, this historiography shows how we have arrived at the ascendant convention that assumes militaries should not intentionally kill the innocent. Furthermore, it shows how moral arguments about the permissibility of killing the innocent are largely adaptations to material changes in how wars are fought, whether through technological innovations or changes in institutional structures.

The Christian Athlete

release date: Apr 05, 2022
The Christian Athlete
The Christian Athlete is a gospel-centered guide that assists athletes who identify as Christians and are seeking to understand how to practically apply their faith to their sport. Athletes desire—and deserve—a more substantive expression of the Christian faith in the context of sport, but they don’t know what it looks like or where to turn to learn more. Author Brian Smith shares his story as an athlete and coach, and his experience working with high-level athletes in the last decade to help readers better understand how to integrate faith and sport by: Assisting those who want a wide-angled understanding of how to live the Christian faith in the context of sports Walking through the many questions Christian athletes ask about winning, losing, injuries, practice, and everything in between Moving Christian athletes from simply having clichéd spiritual sayings decorating their bodies or t-shirts to actually living out their faith through all the opportunities their sport offers them The Christian Athlete will show readers how to live out a biblical perspective on athletics and urge them to engage in the gifts they are given to glorify God whether they are the team MVP or riding the bench.

John Locke, Territory, and Transmigration

release date: Dec 28, 2020
John Locke, Territory, and Transmigration
This book examines John Locke as a theorist of migration, immigration, and the movement of peoples. It outlines the contours of the public discourse surrounding migration in the seventeenth century and situates Locke’s in-depth involvement in these debates. The volume presents a variety of undercurrents in Locke’s writing — his ideas on populationism, naturalization, colonization and the right to withdrawal, the plight of refugees, and territorial rights — which have great import in present-day debates about migration. Departing from the popular extant literature that sees Locke advocating for a strong right to exclude foreigners, the author proposes a Lockean theory of immigration that recognizes the fundamental right to emigrate, thus catering to an age wrought with terrorism, xenophobia and economic inequality. A unique and compelling contribution, the volume will be of great interest to scholars and researchers of political theory, political philosophy, history of international politics, international relations, international political economy, public policy, seventeenth century English history, migration and citizenship studies, and moral philosophy.

John J. Rhodes

release date: Jan 01, 2005
John J. Rhodes
The life of John Jacob Rhodes is, in part, the story of a man thrust from the relative obscurity of the House to the forefront of what became America''s most serious constitutional crisis since the Civil War - the drive to impeach President Richard M. Nixon. As House Republican Leader, John Rhodes was compelled to balance the interests of his party against his sworn oath to preserve the U.S. Constitution. The anguish he endured - and the political and personal courage he displayed - qualify John Rhodes as a true American patriot. This book documents Rhodes''s life journey from his hometown of Council Grove, Kansas, through his long and illustrious representation of Arizona in the U.S. House of Representatives, to his active post-Congressional career, which lasted up until his death at age 86 in 2003. His was a full life in which he was an eyewitness to and participant in major events in our nation''s history -- from the Vietnam and Cold wars to the civil rights movement, from the normalization of diplomatic relations with China to "Reaganomics" - and all the domestic and international upheaval that characterized the second half of the twentieth century. John J. Rhodes: Man of the House is the engaging story of a man who is remembered by all who knew him as a quiet, effective leader who accomplished extraordinary things for his state, stood tall under enormous pressure at a time of grave national peril, and left a legacy of statesmanship sadly missing in today''s body politic. John Rhodes''s life reminds us how American politics once was and, hopefully, may one day be again.

The book also discusses the problems of non-ideal solutions and the concept of activity, and provides an introduction to the molecular basis of thermodynamics.Over five editions, the views of teachers of the subject and their students have been incorporated. The result is a little more rigour in specifying the dimensions within logarithmic expressions, the addition of more worked examples and the inclusion of a simple treatment of the molecular basis of thermodynamics. Students on courses in thermodynamics will continue to find this popular book an excellent introductory text./a
