International Economics

release date: Jun 26, 2013
International Economics
International Economics: A Policy Approach, 2E provides a simplified yet comprehensive analysis of international economic relations, with the objective of extracting maximum policy insight from a minimum number of theoretical constructs. Written for students with only one or two previous courses in the principles of economics, it is designed primarily as a basic text for a one- or two-term undergraduate sequence in international economics. However, the material is also arranged so that the theoretical sections may be omitted and the main text used as supplementary reading in policy-oriented non-economics courses, such as international relations or business administration. As domestic and global economies become ever more closely intertwined, world markets are an increasingly appropriate focus of study. International Economics: A Policy Approach gives students the conceptual tools they need to understand global economic relations.

The Decline and Fall of the Oceanic Hotel and Tales of the Barnegat Lighthouse

release date: Oct 01, 2011
The Decline and Fall of the Oceanic Hotel and Tales of the Barnegat Lighthouse
An unusual history of Long Beach Island, New Jersey told by one of the early inhabitants, the mayor of Barnegat City. The story is made all the more interesting by the author''s deceased grandfather who relates this history to his grandson from beyond the grave. The story will amuse and amaze because it contains previously unknown facts about the infamous Jersey coast. The great Oceanic Hotel and the Barnegat Lighthouse are front-and-center in the drama; so is Prohibition and all the chicaneries of the rum runners and politicians. The Great Depression is also a part of the story. The book is accurately drawn from primary source material furnished by Thomas Jay France before his death. One of the famous contributors to the book is Herbert Hoover (before he was president) as Secretary of Commerce. His letters and others are printed as written.

What Depression?

release date: Jan 01, 2003
What Depression?
How Bad was the Great Depression of the 1930s? With a few exceptions, it''s too late to ask the parents of the time. that leaves the job to us, the kids of the ''30s, to tell the story of those grim "have-not" years that strangled, yet strengthened, the family structure of our nation. As one of those kids, I can introduce two influences that generated genuine Depression Era suffering - liver and spinach - and we had them often. Now, why then, did parents force such nauseous fare upon innocent children? Because spinach was good for us, and it was cheap. That''s one. Also on the bottom line, liver was even better because it was free. Mammas just asked the butcher for some liver for the cat. And a bone for the dog made a pot of soup. That''s how bad the Depression was. Parents took it on the chin. Imagine no job, no paycheck, and very little hope of finding a replacement for either. Dads and Moms lost two of life''s important ingredients, joy and hope. And more, they faced an uncertain world with the ever-present fears of empty pantries, tax collectors and unsympathetic mortgage bankers. Kids shared shortcomings with their parents, but they weren''t crushed by the staggering array of painful responsibilities that beset their elders. Situation normal. They hadn''t known better times. Was it a terrible time to rear youngsters? Maybe and maybe not. What Depression? makes a case for the kiddies and illustrates how their presence added to family stability and survival. In effect, the document represents a time capsule of the Great Depression years in which the kids play the starring roles. The Lawton Wood Brats serve as a cross-section of those who did so much to turn minuses to pluses and to twist frowns into smiles. If you had put this handful of high spirited boys and girls into any American neighborhood in the 1930s, you could have expected similar results. It''s easy to put down kids who grow up in years that are relatively free from economic pressures. But good times or bad, they all rise from the same blueprint and specifications, one for a boy and one for a girl. Each gets a good measure of creativity, initiative, curiosity, energy and that ever present capacity for mischief. So, if you were to crank today''s kids back to the ''30s, it is reasonable to conclude that their energies and talents might have found the same pathway as the one evolved by the Lawton Wood Brats, and their durable contemporaries, when times got tough. If you look for maximum returns, invest in our kids.

Sunday in Sudan

Sunday in Sudan
This book leaps off of today''s headlines. Wars surround us while killing & maiming abound. The globe begs for an institution to bring peace & prosperity, yet each nation says let the others do it. SUNDAY IN SUDAN poses an exciting solution. It postulates the creation of a UN fighting force, the Global Rangers, composed of the offspring of mothers around the world who otherwise would have chosen abortion. It describes how the Rangers are reared to be the finest warriors & diplomats in human history, & then carries their story into the bloody & starvation plagued Sudan. There, Colonel Aysham Kim, Ranger colonel, not only faces a warrior''s challenge, but falls in love with Sylken Ah, a tribeswoman who knows nothing of the UN nor even a word for peace. Aysham & Sylken survive clashes with the Dinka & Mahdi, but are later faced with greater terror & challenge when they run afoul of Farouk Bol, the president of the new Sudan. SS is an intriguing yarn which grapples with the moral dilemmas of the times. Order from: Big Sky Originals, Box 527, Bozeman, MT 59717. A manuscript-like book for $19.95 or on computer diskette for $9.95.

Loving Someone Gay

Loving Someone Gay
With gay marriage making headlines across the nation. LOVING SOMONE GAY is perhaps more relevant--and needed than ever. In the original 1977 edition. Dr. Don Clark brought the first truly positive profile of gay identity to a general audience and contributed to the groundswell of the gay rights movement. In the 1980s. AIDS forever changed not only gay communities, but also the global landscape as prejudice yielded to knowledge that the HIV virus crosses the imagined barriers of gender, sexual orientation and lifestyle. A new edition responded to the crisis. Thoroughly revised for the fourth time. LOVING SOMEONE GAY remains the most comprehensive profile of positive gay identity in print, offering courageous support and compassionate guidance for gay men and lesbians and the friends and families who love them.
