Die Unternehmen stehen heutzutage vor der Herausforderung eines dynamischen wirtschaftlichen Umfeldes. Die Produktlebenszyklen haben sich dramatisch verkürzt und in immer geringer werdenden Abständen erfolgen Produkteinführungen. [...] Um die Kernfrage der Arbeit zu beantworten, wird ausgehend von einer Definition der relevanten Begriffe, der Paradigmenwechsel analysiert, also der Übergang von der Kundenorientierung im klassischen geschlossenen Innovationsprozess zu der Kundenintegration im offenen Innovationsprozess. Dabei werden die „Voice-of-the-Customer-Ansätze“ und deren Kritikpunkte und Erosionsfaktoren, die entscheidend zur Aufgabe des closed Innovation Paradigmas beigetragen haben, vorgestellt. Somit wird eine klare Abgrenzung von der Kundenorientierung zu der Kundenintegration vollzogen. Im weiteren Verlauf der Arbeit werden die Motive für die Kundenintegration dargestellt. Die unterschiedlichen Motive, die den Kunden zur Teilnahme am Innovationsprozess bewegen, werden analysiert. Diese extrinsischen, intrinsischen und sozialen Motive sorgen für eine willentliche Handlungsintention in Form einer Teilnahmebereitschaft. Zudem werden die Motive der Unternehmen dargestellt. Diese dienen vor allem der Reduktion der Unsicherheiten und Verbesserung der Leistungsfähigkeiten des Innovationsprozesses. Darauf folgend werden die Risiken von Open Innovationen beschrieben. Diese können in externe und interne Risiken aufgeteilt werden und können erheblich durch den Einsatz von Gegenmaßnahmen reduziert werden. Im folgenden Kapitel werden zwei Methoden vorgestellt, die in der Praxis schon erfolgreich angewandt werden, um das kreative Potenzial der Kunden in den Innovationsprozess zu integrieren. Die von MIT-Professor von Hippel entwickelte Lead-User-Methode beschreibt ein prozessuales Vorgehen zur Produktentwicklung. Ausgehend von den Eigenschaften besonders fortschrittlicher Kunden, sogenannter Lead User, wird der Ablauf dargestellt. Als zweite Methode werden die sogenannten Toolkits für Open Innovation beschrieben. Diese meist internetbasierten Plattformen erleichtern den Zugang zu implizitem Kundenwissen.
