"There are 75 complete wills in this book. Franklin County Will Book 1 is not in the best condition. Pages 18-32 are missing. The authors of those wills are named in the index, but there is no record of those wills. The first Franklin County Court Clerk, Daniel Weisiger, recorded all wills, along with the probate information. We find Daniel Weisiger’s name through page 74. From 74 to 93 there is no County Clerk’s name in the records, no probate dates. Perhaps there was an interim clerk who didn’t realize how important the probate date was, giving a closer date to the death of the individual. The second clerk, Willis A. Lee, whose name was first written after Hezekiah Brown’s will, on page 96, was not quite as efficient in listing probate information. Most of the time the will is written in the book, with no probate information, no date."--page 4 of cover.

A total of 5,326 Mercer County wills, inventories, lists of sales, administrative and guardian settlements, divisions of estate, appraisments, lists of slaves, agreements, etc., with will book and page number.
