Combinational Therapy in Triple Negative Breast Cancer

release date: May 12, 2022
Combinational Therapy in Triple Negative Breast Cancer
Combinational Therapy in Triple Negative Breast Cancer discusses TNBC at the molecular level with a holistic approach, focusing on combinational strategies targeting various pathways involved in this specific cancer type. Using a monotherapy for the treatment of cancer, especially high-grade tumors like TNBC, is mostly worthless due to the inherent genetic instability of tumor cells to develop intrinsic and acquired resistance; combination therapy presents more, or at least the same, effectiveness with lower doses of every single agent and decreases the likelihood of chemoresistance, making essential to understand more about multiple therapies options. The book is a valuable resource for cancer researchers, oncologists, graduate students, and members of biomedical field who are interested in the potential of combinational therapies to treat triple negative breast cancer. Presents up to date and cutting-edge knowledge of Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) biology, clinical aspects, and treatment options Discusses novel targets and pathways involved in TNBC Provides insights and approaches for future research on TNBC

Journeys Toward Gender Equality in Islam

Journeys Toward Gender Equality in Islam
If justice is an intrinsic value in Islam, why have women been treated as second-class citizens in Islamic legal tradition? Today, the idea of gender equality, inherent to contemporary conceptions of justice, presents a challenge to established, patriarchal interpretations of Shari‘a. In thought-provoking discussions with six influential Muslim intellectuals – Abdullahi An-Na’im, Amina Wadud, Asma Lamrabet, Khaled Abou El Fadl, Mohsen Kadivar and Sedigheh Vasmaghi – Ziba Mir-Hosseini explores how egalitarian gender laws might be constructed from within the Islamic legal framework.

My percept in writing a book concerning the humane, spiritual and worldly quest of man echoes in the concerns, anxieties and the aspirations of the Muslim Ummah, which is pandemonium owing to the chaotic and disoriented state Muslim Ummah in all the spheres of life. The primary object in writing these pages was to occupy myself with a definite task, so necessary in the long solitudes of this mortal life and also to review the past events of the Muslim / history with which I am acquainted and to enable myself to think clearly about the whole scenario. I began the task in a mood of self-questioning and to a large extent this persisted throughout

An Energy Efficient and Dynamic Security Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks

An Energy Efficient and Dynamic Security Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks
Master's Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Computer Science - Internet, New Technologies, grade: 8.12, , course: M. Tech, language: English, abstract: Wireless sensor network (WSN) is an emerging imperious leading technology of the current century that presents great promise for various pioneering applications. The use of sensor networks should keep developing, mainly in the fields of scientific, logistic, healthcare and military applications. Sensor networks interact and collect sensitive data and operate in unattended hostile environments, thus it is imperative to pay attention to the security of wireless sensor networks as they are highly prone to threats. For successful operation of the nodes, it is important to maintain the security and privacy of the transmitted data as well as the data stored at nodes. The different security protocols and models used in the wired and other wireless networks such as ad-hoc networks cannot be used in WSNs because the sensor size poses significant restrictions, mainly in terms of energy autonomy and node lifetime, as the batteries have to be too tiny. Also, the existing security protocols in these constrained networks are not sufficiently energy efficient, which is the real motivation behind this work. In this thesis, a light-weight dynamic security algorithm titled “An Energy Efficient and Dynamic Security Protocol (EEDSP)” for wireless sensor networks has been proposed and implemented at nodal level. We also implement an existing algorithm and then carry out the performance analysis of both the algorithms in terms of energy consumptions, node lifetime and memory requirements at source and intermediate nodes to verify the improvement in our protocol’s results.

Philosophy and Management Studies

Philosophy and Management Studies
Irrespective of whether one thinks of philosophy explicitly, each organizational researcher is a philosopher. A philosophical position is predicated on a variety of approaches relating to ontology, epistemology, methodology, ethics, and political positions. Depending on where one stands with regard to these philosophical building blocks, their orientation may be characterized as positivist, realist, critical-realist, and constructivist, with pragmatist and political considerations weighing in as well. Also, management theories all inhabit the same spectrum of philosophical positions that enrich them and add to their relevance to the world of firms and organizations. This book provides a broad-based commentary on the terrain of philosophy as it pertains to management studies, especially for the relatively unfamiliar organizational theorist. This book serves as a succinct overview of the field of management philosophy as well as a roadmap for those readers who wish to explore the terrain further. The book argues that all knowledge inquiry invokes philosophy and philosophical thinking, and that the artificial separation between philosophy and social science is fallacious. Just as philosophy is everywhere, so is power, and for better or worse they go hand in hand. Hence, philosophical positions are political positions. The authors do not shy from addressing the politics of their own research practice or the subjects of their inquiry. Philosophy and Management Studies targets a new generation of management researchers, whose interest in philosophy vastly exceeds their resources to engage with it, partly because of their unfamiliarity with its often mystifying and outsider-unfriendly conventions. It seeks to bridge the chasm between interest in philosophy in organizational studies and knowledge about it. It is not for the trained philosopher or the expert, but for a relative newcomer.

Islam and Gender

Islam and Gender
Following the Islamic Revolution of 1979 and the re-introduction of Sharica law relating to gender and the family, women's rights in Iran suffered a major setback. However, as the implementers of the law have faced the social realities of women's lives and aspirations, positive changes have gradually come about. Here Ziba Mir-Hosseini takes us to the heart of the growing debates concerning the ways in which justice for women should be achieved. Through a series of lively interviews with clerics in the Iranian religious center of Qom, she seeks to understand the varying notions of gender that inform Islamic jurisprudence and to explore how clerics today perpetuate and modify these notions. Mir-Hosseini finds three main approaches to the issue: insistence on "traditional" patriarchal interpretations based on "complementarity" but "inequality" between women and men; attempts to introduce "balance" into traditional interpretations; or a radical rethinking of the jurisprudential constructions of gender. She introduces the debates among the commentators by examining key passages in both written and oral texts and by narrating her meetings and discussions with the authors. Unique in its approach and its subject matter, the book relates Mir-Hosseini's engagement, as a Muslim woman and a social anthropologist educated and working in the West, with Shii'i Muslim thinkers of various backgrounds and views. In the literature on women in Islam, there is no account of such a face-to-face encounter, either between religion and gender politics or between the two genders.

A voice in his head tells him he knows who brought this plague upon them. But acknowledging it would mean that he must relive the horrors that have been inflicted on those he loves... Yet the voice will not leave Oubaid alone, and as he reluctantly confronts his past, there emerge four echoes of a story, narrated by four childhood friends – a youth caught in conflict, the daughter of a social climber, the son of a moneyed landlord and a militant. As their tales diverge and coalesce, they unravel a truth that is not always the sum of its parts – one that reveals the full tragedy of a people buffeted by circumstance and desperately seeking salvation. A taut, searing reflection of our times, The Plague upon Us announces the arrival of an arresting new voice in contemporary fiction.

Defence System for MANETs. Mobile Adhoc Networks

release date: Apr 11, 2019
Defence System for MANETs. Mobile Adhoc Networks
Master's Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Engineering - Computer Engineering, grade: A+, , language: English, abstract: The main aim of this work is to guarantee a security solution which provides defence against attacks. To achieve that, a secure routing protocol (SMAODV) is presented which makes use of the multiple paths between source-destination pairs for removing the malicious routes from the network thereby reducing the effect of the attack to a great extent. MANET is a class of ad hoc networks which spans a huge spectrum of other networking paradigms such as WMN, WSN, and VANET etc. There is a dire need for strengthening the base of all these networks from the security point of view. The vulnerability of MANET’s towards the attacks is huge as compared to their wired counterparts. MANET’s are vulnerable to attacks because of the unique characteristics which they exhibit like the absence of central authority, usage of wireless links, dynamism in topology, shared medium, constrained resources etc. The ramification being that the security needs of MANET’s become absolutely different than the ones which exist in the customary networks. One of the basal vulnerabilities of MANET’s come from their peer to peer architecture which is completely open wherein the mobile nodes act as routers, the medium of communication is open me reachable to both the legitimate users of the network as well as the malicious nodes. Consequently, there is a bankruptcy of clear line of defence from the perspective of security design. This in turn implies that any node which may even be authentic can enter the network and affect its performance by dropping the packets instead of forwarding them. When these types of attacks occur in ad hoc networks then even the standard routing protocols like AODV, DSDV, DSR, LAR, and LAMR etc. do not provide the required security. The proposed solutions in literature such as SAODV, ARAN, and SEAODV all provide authentication and encryption based solutions to these attack. But, the attack on availability which is the most common and easiest of them all cannot be avoided by authentication and encryption because even the authentic user can be the attacker. Also, encryption cannot be helpful to prevent such attacks. Therefore in such a situation if a proper solution is not provided the entire MANET operation will get crippled.

Ethics and Economic Theory

release date: Sep 03, 2018
Ethics and Economic Theory
This book takes a multi-disciplinary critique of economics’ first principles: the fundamental and inter-related structuring assumptions that underlie the neo-classical paradigm. These assumptions, that economic agents are rational, self-interested individuals, continue to influence the teaching of economics, research agendas and policy analyses. The book argues that both the theoretical understanding of the economy and the actual working of real-world market economies diminish the scope for thinking about the relation between ethics, economics, and the economy. It highlights how market economies may "crowd out" ethical behavior and our evaluation of them elides ethical reflection. The book calls for a more pluralistic and richer approach to economic theory, one that allows ample room for ethical considerations. It provides insight into understanding human motivations and human flourishing and how a good economy requires reflection on the ethical relations between the self, world, and time.
