PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELING does not mean giving advice to people or telling them what to do, neither are there any immediate alternatives, when it comes to mental health. Intensification your understanding through counseling is like amplification of one’s body in the course of exercise. It takes intent, practice, fortitude, and perseverance for the individual who seeks counseling, and for the counselors themselves.

The Secret Sauce is YOU!
The Law of gravity is an inescapable truth of the universe. Sometimes, tectonic shifts happen, lightning strikes, earth shatters, and we fall flat on our face at rock-bottom. We find ourselves engulfed in darkness, silence, and solitude. Finding it to be a perfect breeding ground, our opportunistic demons crawl into our minds gnawing us with their scrawny mindsets. We give in and lose it. We break and how! But how do you know what you''re truly made up of? When you break open! Incidentally, that''s how stars are made too!The basketball that swoops down the hoop proves that not every fall is a loss. That goal proves that a fall can be a win too! Likewise, a football or a soccer ball has to be kicked to make a goal. Imagine the ball refusing to be kicked? Or the basketball refusing to fall down the hoop? My father gifted me a crazy ball in my early years. He hit the crazy ball hard on the floor with his strong arms, and to my amazement, it bounced back until the ceiling of the room! When I did that, I learned that the harder I hit the crazy ball, the higher it went up. My father ingrained in me an integral lesson quite early on in my life. Taking a cue from the basketball, soccer ball, and the crazy ball, I learned that you''ve got to fall in love with being kicked in life. Kicks started giving me a kick. Funnily enough, they became my new normal and gave me an uncanny high. This book is the secret sauce of turning the curve balls life throws at you (unexpectedly) into crazy balls and make a goal each time you fall. Adversity is the best university. And this book, is that university!

The Ties that Bind Us

The Ties that Bind Us
We use high frequency worker level productivity data from garment manufacturing units in India to study the effects of caste-based social networks on individual and group productivity when workers are complements in the production function but wages are paid at the individual level. Using exogenous variation in production line composition for almost 35,000 worker-days, we find that a 1 percentage point increase in the share of own caste workers in the line increases daily individual productivity by about 10 percentage points. The lowest performing worker increases her effort by more than 15 percentage points when the production line has a more homogeneous caste composition. Production externalities that impose financial costs due to worker''s poor performance on co-workers within her social network can explain our findings. Our results suggest that even in the absence of explicit group-based financial incentives, social networks can be leveraged to improve both worker and group productivity.

Flexible Bioelectronic Devices Based on Micropatterned Monolithic Carbon Fiber Mats

release date: Jan 01, 2020
Flexible Bioelectronic Devices Based on Micropatterned Monolithic Carbon Fiber Mats
Abstract: Polymer-derived carbon can serve as an electrode material in multimodal neural stimulation, recording, and neurotransmitter sensing platforms. The primary challenge in its applicability in implantable, flexible neural devices is its characteristic mechanical hardness that renders it difficult to fabricate the entire device using only carbon. A microfabrication technique is introduced for patterning flexible, cloth-like, polymer-derived carbon fiber (CF) mats embedded in polyimide (PI), via selective reactive ion etching. This scalable, monolithic manufacturing method eliminates any joints or metal interconnects and creates electrocorticography electrode arrays based on a single CF mat. The batch-fabricated CF/PI composite structures, with critical dimension of 12.5 μm, are tested for their mechanical, electrical, and electrochemical stability, as well as to chemicals that mimic acute postsurgery inflammatory reactions. Their recording performance is validated in rat models. Reported CF patterning process can benefit various carbon microdevices that are expected to feature flexibility, material stability, and biocompatibility

Using Social Connections and Financial Incentives to Solve Coordination Failure

Using Social Connections and Financial Incentives to Solve Coordination Failure
Production processes are often organized in teams, yet there is limited evidence on whether and how social connections and financial incentives affect productivity in tasks that require coordination among workers. We simulate assembly line production in a lab-in-the-field experiment in which workers exert real effort in a minimum-effort game in teams whose members are either socially connected or unconnected and are paid according to the group output. We find that group output increases by 18%, and coordination improves by 30-39% when workers are socially connected with their co-workers. These findings can plausibly be explained by the higher levels of pro-social motivation between co-workers in socially connected teams.

Microstructural Tuning of Glassy Carbon for Electrical and Electrochemical Sensor Applications

release date: Jan 01, 2013
Microstructural Tuning of Glassy Carbon for Electrical and Electrochemical Sensor Applications
Carbon MEMS (CMEMS) and Carbon NEMS (CNEMS) are an emerging class of miniaturized devices. Due to the numerous advantages such as scalable manufacturing processes, inexpensive and readily available precursor polymer materials, tunable surface properties and biocompatibility, carbon has become a preferred material for a wide variety of current and future sensing applications. In this dissertation we report on CMEMS and CNEMS based fabrication methodologies that result in highly graphitic carbon materials. The Single suspended carbon nanowires (CNWs) integrated on CMEMS structures fabricated by electrospinning of SU8 photoresist on photolithographially patterned SU8 followed by pyrolysis are utilized for understanding the microstructural tuning in micro and nano carbon materials. The CNWs thus fabricated display core- shell structures having a graphitic shell with a carbon core, are chemically inert and contain no pores. We explore various tunable fabrication and pyrolysis parameters to improve graphitization in the resulting CNWs. Preliminary investigations on understanding the mechanical and electrical properties of the polymer- carbon intermediate materials formed during pyrolysis are carried out. The results suggest that during pyrolysis the precursor material passes through a semi- solid state of the matrix, which is soft enough to allow bubble formation and diffusion while still retaining the overall morphology. We explore gas-sensing application of the CNW-CMEMS hybrid devices featuring single suspended CNWs by using Joule-heated CNW as a hot surface for selective area Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD). By applying a current between the Ohmic contacts of the CNW- CMEMS hybrids we carried out Joule heating to deposit a granular tungsten oxide (WO3) film by decomposing tungsten hexacarbonyl [W(CO)6] selectively onto the heated CNWs. The proposed fabrication technique can be utilized for a wide variety of applications by depositing any desired material from a volatile precursor at elevated temperatures selectively on to a CNW. In this dissertation we also report on the results from an optimization study of SU8 photoresist derived carbon electrodes. We elucidate a modified pyrolysis technique featuring an ultra-fast temperature ramp for obtaining bubbled GC (BGC) from lithographically patterned SU8. BGC is evaluated as an electrode material for electrochemical double layer capacitors (EDLCs) by employing chronoamperometry and cyclic voltammetry (CV). We conclude this dissertation by suggesting possible future works on electrical and electrochemical sensor applications of the CNW- CMEMS hybrid devices, and SU8 derived carbon electrodes. italic
