Under Construction

release date: Jan 24, 2022
Under Construction
Under Construction is based on 2 Peter 1:1-11. The Apostle Peter will give us a step-by-step plan to become effective and productive in the kingdom of God. We will use the analogy of construction of a house for context as it relates to building your own kingdom lifestyle. This will be a process as we learn the individual characteristics of kingdom living and how they apply to your life--characteristics that I learned from the powerful teachings of the late great Dr. Myles Munroe and maybe discover God's intention or purpose for your being. We will use Jesus's teachings from the book of Matthew spoken in parables to a large crowd describing the kingdom of heaven. These teachings were depicted to them in terms of things that they could relate to. The crowd was composed largely of farmers, fishermen, and landowners. The parable of the yeast teaches us to make an impact in the environment that God has us in. Just a pinch of yeast can have a positive and profound effect on pounds of flour. Also intertwined will be some personal accounts and life lessons gained along my path that could possibly help others navigate along their paths. Our ultimate goal however is kingdom building. Peter's plan will have you constructing your invisible kingdom in your heart, mind, body, and soul and therefore equipping you to expand God's kingdom on earth by impacting your environments. Be the yeast, my friends.

The New Economics

release date: Nov 11, 2021
The New Economics
In 1517, Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the wall of Wittenberg church. He argued that the Church’s internally consistent but absurd doctrines had pickled into a dogmatic structure of untruth. It was time for a Reformation. Half a millennium later, Steve Keen argues that economics needs its own Reformation. In Debunking Economics, he eviscerated an intellectual church – neoclassical economics – that systematically ignores its own empirical untruths and logical fallacies, and yet is still mysteriously worshipped by its scholarly high priests. In this book, he presents his Reformation: a New Economics, which tackles serious issues that today's economic priesthood ignores, such as money, energy and ecological sustainability. It gives us hope that we can save our economies from collapse and the planet from ecological catastrophe. Performing this task with his usual panache and wit, Steve Keen’s new book is unmissable to anyone who has noticed that the economics Emperor is naked and would like him to put on some clothes.

Fallout

Fallout
New York Times bestselling author Steve Sheinkin presents a follow up to his award-winning book Bomb: The Race to Build--and Steal--the World's Most Dangerous Weapon, taking readers on a terrifying journey into the Cold War and our mutual assured destruction. As World War II comes to a close, the United States and the Soviet Union emerge as the two greatest world powers on extreme opposites of the political spectrum. After the United States showed its hand with the atomic bomb in Hiroshima, the Soviets refuse to be left behind. With communism sweeping the globe, the two nations begin a neck-and-neck competition to build even more destructive bombs and conquer the Space Race. In their battle for dominance, spy planes fly above, armed submarines swim deep below, and undercover agents meet in the dead of night. The Cold War game grows more precarious as weapons are pointed towards each other, with fingers literally on the trigger. The decades-long showdown culminates in the Cuban Missile Crisis, the world's close call with the third—and final—world war. Belonging

release date: Jun 15, 2021
Belonging
A stunning collection of photographs of the LGBTQ community in Thailand, from one of the world’s most renowned photographers Steve McCurry is the artist behind some of the most iconic images in contemporary photography. His 1984 portrait of Sharbat Gula (“the Afghan girl”) on the cover of National Geographic remains widely recognized to this day. Now McCurry turns his attention to Thailand as part of a series of photobooks on LGBTQ communities around the world. Thailand has long had the reputation as one of the most gay-friendly destinations in Asia, particularly Bangkok with its nightlife and its relative openness and safety. While this may be true for tourists and expats, the idea of Thailand as a haven for LGBTQ people and for same-sex couples, heavily promoted by the tourist industry, does not necessarily extend to Thais themselves. While Thailand is home to the largest LGBTQ communities in Asia, the reality for them is less accepting. Discrimination and exclusion targeting LGBTQ people continues despite a nominally progressive stance on inclusion, and same-sex marriage remains illegal. Against this backdrop, McCurry’s lushly colored photographs take us into the vibrant LGBTQ community in Bangkok, and this beautifully packaged, affordably priced book gives us a series of close to one hundred moving and intimate portraits of people who are no longer welcome in the community in which they grew up, but who have forged a new life and a new meaning of family in the queer community. Belonging was designed by Emerson, Wajdowicz Studios (EWS).

The Ultimate History of Video Games, Volume 2

release date: Jan 01, 2021
The Ultimate History of Video Games, Volume 2
"As video games evolve, only the fittest companies survive... In volume 1 of The Ultimate History of Video Games, [Steven L. Kent] chronicled the industry's first thirty years. In volume 2, he narrates gaming's entrance into the twenty-first century, as Nintendo, Sega, Sony, and Microsoft battle to capture the global market. The home console boom of the '90s turned hobby companies like Nintendo and Sega into Hollywood-studio-sized business titans. But by the end of the decade, they would face new, more powerful competitors. In boardrooms on both sides of the Pacific, engineers and executives began, with enormous budgets and total secrecy, to plan the next evolution of home consoles. The PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, and Sega Dreamcast all made radically different bets on what gamers would want. And then, to the shock of the world, Bill Gates announced the development of the one console to beat them all-even if Microsoft had to burn a few billion dollars to do it... [This volume] explores the origins of modern consoles and of the franchises-from Grand Theft Auto and Halo to Call of Duty and Guitar Hero-that would define gaming in the new millennium"--

Cognitive Load Theory

Cognitive Load Theory
Brings clarity to the complexity surrounding cognitive load theory (CLT) and provides a user-friendly toolkit of techniques designed to help teachers optimise their pupils' learning.?? Foreword by John Sweller. CLT is rapidly becoming education's next 'big thing' - and Professor Dylan Wiliam recently vouched for its significance as being 'the single most important thing for teachers to know'. It is natural, therefore, that teachers will want to know more about it and, more importantly, understand how they can adapt their classroom teaching to take it into account.? Written by author and international teacher trainer Steve Garnett, this invaluable pocket guide offers a complete yet concise summary of what CLT involves and how it can impact on pupil performance. Steve provides a wide range of classroom-based teaching strategies to help teachers avoid 'overloading' their pupils' working memories, and empowers them with the tools to improve learners' retrieval from long-term memory and get them learning more effectively - particularly when learning new content. ? Suitable for teachers, department heads, school leaders and anyone with a responsibility for improving teaching and learning.

Master Trader ven'Deelin has taught Jethri much, and she expects great things from him. Indeed, one might say she demands them. Jethri has inherited a mission from his father, a plan that will allow family Loop ships like the one he grew up on to survive the encroachment of Rostov’s Dust. In this, he’s backed by several prominent Looper families who are scheduled to meet and plan at the South Axis Trade Fair. In what seems to be a fortunate pairing of missions, Master Trader ven'Deelin sees Jethri become lead trader on his own small ship, which is scheduled to arrive at the South Axis Fair. Unfortunately, that “fortunate coincidence” may instead be a test of Jethri’s loyalties, as he’s thrust into a tangle of gray-trading, mistaken identity, misinformation, and galactic politics. . . . Out of the Dark

release date: Feb 25, 2018
Out of the Dark
Steve Rasnic Tem once said his writing was filtered through “a different lens to view the world.” With a style all his own, Tem has galvanized and thrilled fans of weird fiction worldwide. His efforts have earned him the Bram Stoker, World Fantasy and British Fantasy Awards. His métier is the monstrous secret, the unsettling darkness hidden within all of us. “Bedtime Story” opens with a line that defines Tem’s style: “I don’t know why bad things happen. There’s never a good reason. They just do.” The story introduces us to a nightmare conjured from the mind of a child, preparing to victimize her own father. “The Unmasking” takes us into the tortured psyche of a horribly deformed recluse obsessed with the intricacies of human skin. “Outside,” one of several homages to the great H.P. Lovecraft, melds Tem’s uniquely poetic style with the cosmic horror created by that twisted gentleman from Providence. “The Masque of Edgar Allan Poe” focuses on Tem’s fondness for mask imagery, and how the veneer we wear on the surface can become immobile, consuming our souls. “The Doll Thief” is a deeply disturbing exercise in pathos, perversion and psychosis. In “Pulled Down to Sleep,” a man fights to remain awake, knowing that sleep will doom him to a life of unspeakable nightmares. “Worms” is a frightening tale of vengeance that will literally leave your skin crawling. With “Mother Hag,” Tem gives us a “grim” fairy tale about monstrous motherly love, courtesy of a grotesque, carnivorous witch.

The Third Wave

release date: Apr 05, 2016
The Third Wave
The #1 New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller from Steve Case—the co-founder of AOL—presents “a compelling roadmap for the future…that can help us make sense of the technological changes reshaping our economy and the world. A fascinating read” (Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook COO and founder of LeanIn.org). Steve Case—a pioneer who made the Internet part of everyday life—was on the leading edge of a revolution in 1985 when he co-founded AOL, the first Internet company to go public and the most successful business of the 1990s. Back then Case was an entrepreneur in an industry that hadn’t really been invented yet, but he had a sense how dramatically the Internet would transform business and society. In The Third Wave, he uses his insights garnered from nearly four decades of working as an innovator, investor, and businessman to argue the importance of entrepreneurship and to chart a path for future innovators. We are entering, as Case explains, the “Third Wave” of the Internet. The first wave saw AOL and other companies lay the foundation for consumers to connect to the Internet. The second wave saw companies like Google and Facebook build on top of the Internet to create search and social networking capabilities, while apps like Snapchat and Instagram leveraged the smartphone revolution. Now, Case argues, we’re entering the Third Wave: a period in which entrepreneurs will vastly transform major “real world” sectors such as health, education, transportation, energy, and food—and in the process change the way we live our daily lives. Part memoir, part manifesto, and part playbook for the future, The Third Wave explains the ways in which newly emerging technology companies will have to rethink their relationships with customers, with competitors, and with governments; and offers advice for how entrepreneurs can make winning business decisions and strategies—and how all of us can make sense of this ever-changing digital age.

New England Christmas Sampler
In 2001, during an interview on a Connecticut radio station, Steve Burt read "Tina's Tender Touch," a story he had published in Mature Living Magazine. The phones lit up, listeners begging for more. So he read "The Thumb Island Elephants," about a coastal community in a 1909 Christmas Eve snowstorm that had to come together to rescue an circus elephant and her baby who were trapped in an overturned circus wagon on the railroad tracks. Sales of the Rev. Dr. Burt's book, A Christmas Dozen, went through the roof, with Family Circle Magazine showcasing a Vermont story, "Nana Antonia's Christmas Wish," about a young boy and his father clashing over how to respond to a dying great-grandmother's yearning for a Christmas Eve sleigh ride. Readers loved it and Dr. Burt was invited to do a 100+ radio station tour. Then Chicken Soup for the Soul reprinted "Tina's Tender Touch." Readers laughed, cried, and shared the stories with friends, clergy, and family. Now, 20 years later, with A Christmas Dozen out of print, we're bringing back 10 of the original 12 stories as the New England Christmas Sampler. Enjoy. And share.

Backlash

release date: Feb 08, 2021
Backlash
Was there ever a more opportune time for vigilantism to raise its ugly head in America? Heretofore, it had always been thoroughly denounced. Even in the lawlessness of the wild, wild west, brave men behind tin stars stood up against bloodthirsty lynch mobs seeking vengeance in the name of justice. However, 2020 was a year unlike any other. Cowardly mayors and governors stood by while anarchists openly rioted, looted and set everything in their paths ablaze. Some even encouraged mob rule while handcuffing law enforcement. Law-abiding citizens were left defenseless to cower in the face of ruthless criminals who had taken control of the streets in many of our major cities. Those who stood up to the mobs, including the police, were arrested while the thugs were left free to rape, pillage and murder. With the rule of law torched by the very leaders who'd sworn to uphold it, a huge vacuum was created. At this defining moment in our history, an avenging angel emerged to fill the void. Authorities called for his head but forgotten citizens and downtrodden police embraced their anonymous champion and hailed him as a hero. In a strange twist of fate, I was called upon to be the messenger for AA as he came to be known. In a most unlikely turn of events, I was privileged to chronicle the amazing saga of the Avenging Angel as it unfolded. Now, I can share it with you.

He spends much of his leisure time in the tropics, which he loves. Steve's poems reflect past and present, as well as personal and wider observations. Retribution
Something nasty is happening to the fairy settlement. For one thing, there's a sudden overabundance of rats and that's just the start of the weird occurrences. An epidemic of boils, water turning to blood and an inexplicable darkness follow, making Stephen imagine he's living in Biblical plague times in ancient Egypt. Someone with unimaginable power is causing the chaos, but how is it being done and why? Quina, unconventional healer and the latest member of the group, seeks spiritual help from her dead sister, and, along with help from the Chief Librarian, points everyone towards a possible answer, although it's a very dangerous path to find it. But the answer appears to defy imagination and, even if it is correct, how could ordinary mortals possibly hope to overcome the wielder of such god-like powers? To win through could mean the ultimate sacrifice, but will even that be enough?

Why do I trust Hanson? Because his is embodied, emotional, affecting work driven by the urgency of the need to communicate rather than to curate ego for gain, status, prestige. You don't have to agree with what Hanson is saying, but he invites you urgently, generously to engage in dialogue. Thus too might we unfold ourselves out of our own bodies of language, renewing ourselves in the process. - Scott Thurston
