Hell's ER

release date: Mar 02, 2026
Hell's ER
The world of psychiatry is a difficult field to navigate. In my twenty-plus years dealing with different facilities and clientele, I was educated in the very complex field of this profession. I got a doctorate in the school of hard knocks. The educational aspect of psychology has no correlation with the realms that exist beyond most human perception. Books in this field of study try to explain what most cannot understand, relying entirely on theory and conjecture. This is my testament to what I believe the Lord has inspired me to do.

The End of This World

release date: Jan 17, 2023
The End of This World
The climate crisis is here, and the end of this world—a world built on land theft, resource extraction, and colonial genocide—is on the horizon. In this compelling roadmap to a livable future, Indigenous sovereignty and climate justice go hand in hand. Drawing on their work in Indigenous activism, the labour movement, youth climate campaigns, community-engaged scholarship, and independent journalism, the six authors challenge toothless proposals and false solutions to show that a just transition from fossil fuels cannot succeed without the dismantling of settler capitalism in Canada. Together, they envision a near future where oil and gas stay in the ground; where a caring economy provides social supports for all; where wealth is redistributed from the bloated billionaire class; and where stolen land is rightfully reclaimed under the jurisdiction and sovereignty of Indigenous peoples. Packed with clear-eyed analysis of both short- and long-term strategies for radical social change, The End of This World promises that the next world is within reach and worth fighting for.

Hamden Firefighting

release date: Jan 01, 2017
Hamden Firefighting
Incorporated in 1786, the town of Hamden covers nearly 33 square miles immediately north of New Haven, Connecticut. Despite significant industrial growth in the early 19th century and several devastating fires, Hamden had no organized firefighting forces until its first volunteer fire company was organized in 1896. By 1925, the handful of independent volunteer fire companies that followed became the Hamden Fire Department. A predominantly volunteer force before World War II, the department grew to 55 career members by 1950 and to 124 by the mid-1980s. The ascendency of emergency medical services and, more recently, a concern for homeland security have greatly expanded the department's role in public safety. Although 1990s municipal austerity measures reduced department size by 20 percent, with a population today exceeding 60,000, fire department responses have increased to more than 10,000 calls annually, of which 74 percent are for EMS.

Implementing IBM System Networking 10Gb Ethernet Switches

release date: Jan 01, 2012
Implementing IBM System Networking 10Gb Ethernet Switches
In today's infrastructure, it is common to build networks based on 10 Gb Ethernet technology. The IBM® portfolio of 10 Gb systems networking products includes Top-of-Rack switches, and the embedded switches in the IBM BladeCenter® family. In 2010, IBM formed the IBM System Networking business (by acquiring BLADE Network Technologies), which is now focused on driving data center networking by using the latest Ethernet technologies. The main focus of this IBM Redbooks® publication is on the IBM System Networking 10Gb Switch Modules, which include both embedded and Top-of-Rack (TOR) models. After reading this book, you can perform basic to advanced configurations of IBM System Networking 10Gb Switch Modules. In this publication, we introduce the various 10 Gb switch models that are available today and then describe in detail the features that are applicable to these switches. We then present two architectures that use these 10 Gb switches, which are used throughout this book. These designs are based on preferred practices and the experience of authors of this book. Our intention is to show the configuration of the different features that are available with IBM System Networking 10Gb Switch Modules. We follow the three-tier Data Center design, focusing on the Access and Aggregation Layers, because those layers are the layers that IBM System Networking Switches use.

Increasing Security and Reducing Carbon Emissions of the U. S. Transportation Sector

release date: Mar 01, 2010
Increasing Security and Reducing Carbon Emissions of the U. S. Transportation Sector
The USAF has a goal to supply 50%t of its fuel requirements from domestic synthetic sources by 2016. This study had 2 objectives. The first was to develop a coal-biomass-to-liquids (CBTL) plant design that is potentially capable of co-gasifying mixtures of coal and biomass to produce a clean synthesis gas that can then be sent to Fischer-Tropsch units for synthesis of clean diesel, jet and naphtha liquid fuels. The second objective was to develop a CBTL pathway for diesel fuel production that has the potential of providing 100,000 BPD of synthetic fuel with the requirement that carbon dioxide emissions should be less than those from conventional petroleum. Three biomass types were selected for study: woody biomass, switchgrass, and corn stover. Illus.

Law and the Postmodern Mind

release date: Dec 22, 2009
Law and the Postmodern Mind
David Gray Carlson and Peter Goodrich argue that the postmodern legal mind can be characterized as having shifted the focus of legal analysis away from the modernist understanding of law as a system that is unitary and separate from other aspects of culture and society. In exploring the various "other dimensions" of law, scholars have developed alternative species of legal analysis and recognized the existence of different forms of law. Carlson and Goodrich assert that the postmodern legal mind introduced a series of "minor jurisprudences" or partial forms of legal knowledge, which both compete with and subvert the modernist conception of a unitary system of law. In doing so scholars from a variety of disciplines pursue the implications of applying the insights of their disciplines to law. Carlson and Goodrich have assembled in this volume essays from some of our leading thinkers that address what is arguably one of the most fundamental of interdisciplinary encounters, that of psychoanalysis and law. While psychoanalytic interpretations of law are by no means a novelty within common law jurisprudence, the extent and possibilities of the terrain opened up by psychoanalysis have yet to be extensively addressed. The intentional subject and "reasonable man" of law are disassembled in psychoanalysis to reveal a chaotic and irrational libidinal subject, a sexual being, a body and its drives. The focus of the present collection of essays is upon desire as an inner law, upon love as an interior idiom of legality, and represents a signficant and at times surprising development of the psychoanalytic analysis of legality. These essays should appeal to scholars in law and in psychology. The contributors are Drucilla Cornell, Jacques Derrida, Peter Goodrich, Pierre Legendre, Alain Pottage, Michel Rosenfeld, Renata Salecl, Jeanne L. Schroeder, Anton Schutz, Henry Staten, and Slavoj Zizek. David Gray Carlson is Professor of Law, Benjamin Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University. Peter Goodrich is Professor of Law, University of London and University of California, Los Angeles.

American Constitutional Law

release date: Jan 01, 2007
American Constitutional Law
The only book that develops constitutional law in the comprehensive sense, American Constitutional Law not only contains the results of court decisions but also highlights the efforts of legislatures, executives, the states, and the general public. Available in two formats -- a single, hardback volume or two paperback volumes -- it covers all new developments in case law, congressional statutes, presidential policies, and initiatives undertaken by states under their own constitutions. Most constitutional law books focus only on case law and judicial pronouncements, but American Constitutional Law illustrates how both judicial and non-judicial forces shape constitutional law. Compared to other texts, this book offers more citations to earlier decisions, allowing the reader to research areas in greater depth and better understand the process of trial and error used to shape constitutional principles. A broad range of cases (not just landmark cases) is combined with nonjudicial contributions. Fisher and Adler also cover state involvement in constitutional law by offering examples of how states, by interpreting their own constitutions, may depart from Supreme Court doctrines. Readings include not only court cases, but presidential statements and congressional debates.
