Letters from a Desperate Dog

Feeling misunderstood and unappreciated by her owner, Emma the dog asks for advice from the local canine advice columnist.

What Do Authors and Illustrators Do? (Two Books in One)

Children's books tell stories with words and often with pictures, too. In What Do Authors Do? Christelow shows how an idea blossoms into a final book in colorful watercolors and comic book-style frames. In What Do Illustrators Do?, two artists create their own versions of Jack and the Beanstalk, from rough sketch to finished artwork. Budding youngwriters and artists, rejoice! Both inspiring books are now bound as one and include creative writing and drawing exercises.

The Desperate Dog Writes Again

Emma loves her human, George, but he can be so difficult! This time he has a visitor, who won't let go of his hand. Worse, she's brought along her dog, Hankie, and they've taken over Emma's spot next to George on the couch.

What's a desperate dog to do? Emma hurries off to the library to write to her favorite canine columnist for advice. But this may be one problem that even Dear Queenie can't solve. Will Emma's happy home ever be the same again?

Drawn in an accessible comic-book style, this story is just right for children who are adjusting to a new member of the family, and will strike a chord with dog lovers of all stripes.

The Pumpkin Fair Book & Cassette

by: Eve Bunting, Eileen Christelow

A bouncy rhyme and delightful artwork bring this pumpkin fair to life. The young narrator is ecstatic to be at the local pumpkin fair, where pumpkins of every size are on display - and that's not all! There's pumpkin bowling, a pumpkin pull, and every sort of food you can imagine made from the orange stuff, from ice cream to stew. . . . Christelow's good-natured watercolor-and-ink illustrations are filled with things to look at and laugh about, including a marching band in pumpkin suits. Keep this book around to read for autumn story hours - but you might want a piece of pumpkin pie when you're done. - ALA Booklist"Christelow's jubilant illustrations in watercolor and pen and ink add to the general atmosphere of gaiety - everywhere readers look, families are interacting happily and having fun. . . . Halloween is never mentioned, so the book could be used to celebrate the harvest season in general. Of course, it will also serve as a good non-scary Halloween story." - School Library Jo

Where's the Big Bad Wolf?

Whenever there's trouble on Detective Doggedly's beat, that low-down, no-good, chicken-chasing, pig-poaching Big Bad Wolf is always the prime suspect. But when the three little pigs' house is huffed and puffed into a pile of straw and only a sheep named Esmeralda is found at the scene of the crime, Doggedly has a new mystery to solve: Where's the Big Bad Wolf?
With the help of some wise elderly cows who live in a home across the road, Doggedly sniffs out the clues. But can he catch the culprit before the three little pigs get gobbled up? Here's a new wrinkle on the classic tale, enlivened by Eileen Christelow's fast-paced narrative style and her drolly comic illustrations.
