Working on Marvel''s new "Conan the Barbarian" series, he immediately made a name for himself as one of the most exciting young stylists to arrive upon the scene. Infusing a Pre-Raphaelite influence into comics had never been done before, and Windsor-Smith created many of the most elegant and beloved comics of the 1970s. Then, deciding that mainstream superhero comics were not the best medium to foster his widening artistic ambitions, Windsor-Smith left comics to pursue the creation of single-picture, "easel" works.
