Two Souls and a Body

release date: Jul 30, 2020
Two Souls and a Body
Why do Christians believe what they believe? The early Christians contested their theology for 300 hundred years in Greek and Roman Hellenistic culture. Not surprisingly, the educated Christian, priest, and bishop developed his theology based on what everyone knew to be true: the Hellenistic science and philosophy that was taught at school and university. We now know what was taught and where the Christian theologian started his quest to understand Jesus and the Bible. You will find out what every educated person knew to be true when the New Testament was written and Christianity was defined. You will discover what was accepted from Hellenistic culture, what was changed, and what was rejected to develop Christian theology. You will learn how the ideas of the person, equality, free-will, psychology, and salvation were taken from the Hellenism and made into Christian theology. You will know how to lead the truly Christian life according to the Early Church. On the cover John Chrysostom, doctor of the Catholic Church and chief theologian of the Orthodox Church looks back to Plato and Aristotle. Christ came in the fullness of time (Galatians 4:4) when the best of Greek thought and Christian revelation were joined just as Christ Jesus united God and man. When I retired from state mental health, I wanted my 1970s doctoral work at the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley done before computers to survive. I did not complete the work and was awarded a MA. I was one of 1960s Jesus People, a Navigator attracted to the Early Church and Russian Orthodoxy. I lived in rural areas, so attended the Episcopal Church, worked on the Church Army and with the Salvation Army. I now attend a charismatic church and a Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. I have 4 kids and 8 grandkids. Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciple. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (John 8: 31-32)

Rodel Tapaya

release date: Jan 01, 2015
Rodel Tapaya
Rodel Tapaya (b. Montalban, Philippines, 1980; lives and works in Bulacan, Philippines) is one of the most promising visual artists of his generation. His prominent position on the Southeast Asian scene was confirmed in 2011, when he received the renowned Foundation Signature Art Prize. European audiences and the Western art world, by contrast, have hardly taken notice of his paintings, sculptures, and installations. So this book--a survey of the complex narrative oeuvre he has built over the past eight years--has long been overdue. Our lives and thinking are under ever-growing pressure to adapt to an incessant flow of jarringly inconsistent information. Tapaya has honed the skill of isolating particular aspects and arranging them in dramatic combinations. At the same time, he seems to view the world through the eyes of an ancient storyteller. His works explore the meanings of the dynamic and inexhaustible symbolism of archaic Philippine myths and legends and connect them to the modern world. Rodel Tapaya's paintings--many are in large formats, almost like murals--cast a spell with their fascinating wealth of forms and motifs, but they always also blaze trails through the undergrowth of everyday life.

Balancing Green Power

Balancing Green Power
Renewable energy sources are large but some are variable and intermittent. The wide-scale use of renewable energy sources for energy supply will require the adoption of ways to compensate for their variability. This book reviews the technical options looking at their pros and cons and how they might work together to support a reliable and sustainable energy system. This is a rapidly advancing area of research and practice and "Balancing Green Power" offers an ideal introduction to the field.

Rashid Rana
Cornerhouse, with Asia Triennial Manchester 11, presents this accompanying publication on the occasion of the first major UK public solo show from Rashid Rana. Included are new and recent works that cut across conventional notions of the scale and status of the photographic object, opening up its potential to represent cultural, social and physical realities. The works in this exhibition blur the divide between two and three-dimensional forms to challenge the viewer's understanding of the world in which they live. Photosculptures, large-scale photo mosaics, installations and new video work subvertperception of size and structure and urge us to look deeper into the relationship between the fragment and the bigger picture.0Exhibition: Cornerhouse, Manchester, UK (2011) / New Art Exchange, Nottingham, UK (2012).0.
