We Lost Our Baby

release date: Apr 01, 2007
We Lost Our Baby
We Lost Our Baby is the true story of a young couple who, after the initial excitement of discovering a new pregnancy, faced the heartache of losing their baby. On top of the trauma of a miscarriage, they also had to deal with insensitive and sometimes rude doctors and nurses, outdated hospital policies and a shocking lack of empathy and understanding during the worst times of this tragedy. Angry and confused, they went looking for answers. They found none. There were no books to help them with the emotional upheaval they were going through. There were no explanations from the hospital as to why they had lost their baby and the counselling on offer was largely ineffective. What followed was an awkward few months where they could not grieve together and their relationship was severely strained. It was not just their relationship with each other that was affected. Family and friends who did not know how to deal with the situation also became isolated from them. Realising that communication was the key to getting through this sorrowful time, they finally started talking and found a way to get their relationship back on track. They also found that if they spoke honestly and openly to family and friends, they could get those relationships back as well. Knowing that other couples who have lost a baby would be going through similar difficulties, they decided to write down their experience in an effort to help them. Their beautifully written and poignant story, dealing with an issue that is too rarely acknowledged and discussed openly, is one of complete and heart-rending honesty.

The Russian Democratic Party Yabloko

release date: Sep 20, 2018
The Russian Democratic Party Yabloko
Western analysts have become increasingly concerned with President Putin''s centralization and control, with the term ''managed democracy'' becoming a byword for the state of the Russian polity. In this important exploration, David White examines the gradual electoral decline of Russia''s leading liberal party, the Yabloko Party. In doing so, he provides fascinating insights into the role of opposition, the development of the party system and, above all, the quality of democracy in Russia under President Putin. As an overtly democratic, liberal reformist party with a strong pro-Western orientation, the place and role of Yabloko in Russian politics is of concern to those interested both in the establishment of democratic norms and the relative strength of political forces promoting democratic and market reforms in Russia.

Far North
June 2016, Far North, New Zealand. The job seemed simple: leave Auckland, pick up 500kg of meth from Ninety-Mile Beach and drive it back south, while keeping a low profile. How hard could that be? This is the true story of one of New Zealand''s biggest ever drug busts, and how those responsible almost got away with half a tonne of crystal meth. Oh, and half a billion dollars. But thanks to the sleuthing skills of Ahipara''s good-hearted locals - and a series of unbelievable faux-pas by the drug-smugglers - police managed to catch the crims. They say fact is stranger than fiction, and in this case it is. Stranger, and funnier. It''s a story like no other. This is Far North.

Clinical Chemistry

release date: Sep 16, 2016
Clinical Chemistry
Clinical Chemistry is a comprehensive textbook covering the area of medical science variously known as chemical pathology, clinical chemistry, medical biochemistry and clinical biochemistry. The biochemical processes and physiological interrelationships, of tissues, organs and molecules are discussed in the context of disease processes and related to the diagnosis, monitoring, and management of disease. Also included are analytical processes, such as immunoassay, and how these relate to clinical practice. Although the emphasis of this book is clinical biochemistry, some chapters include sections on haematology, radiology and microbiology where this helps in the understanding of disease processes. The increasing use of the techniques of molecular biology and genetics in the investigation of disease is acknowledged also by appropriate inclusion of these disciplines in a number of chapters. Standard International (SI) units of measurement are used throughout, but for tests where non-SI units are in common use as well as SI units both sets of units are quoted.
