In Rawls, Dewey, and Constructivism, Eric Weber examines and critiques John Rawls'' epistemology and the unresolved tension - inherited from Kant - between Representationalism and Constructivism in Rawls'' work. Weber argues that, despite Rawls'' claims to be a constructivist, his unexplored Kantian influences cause several problems. Traditionally, Christians and church leaders compartmentalize their lives into growing spiritually and serving other people. One studies the Bible, worships or serves others without much thought for how these spiritual disciplines of formation and missional living impact and influence one another. Through a designed pastoral experiment involving twenty-four individuals in three community groups, this project proves that missional living combined with spiritual practices increases the spiritual growth in the members of The Baptist Church of Beaufort (SC)..

Overall, on-time enrollment increases by 52.5 p.p., while orphans see an 8.7 p.p. enhancement between 1994 and 2004. Among orphans, boys'' enrollment rates advance more than girls'' between the two years. Additionally, the study finds a reduction of wealth effects for all groups between the two years. Overall, the effect of wealth on enrollment decreases by 8.1 p.p., while orphans'' wealth effects decrease by 8.6 p.p. Despite PEDP''s improvements to all groups in the study, non-orphans'' enrollment is seen to increase by 16.3 p.p. more than orphans'' enrollment rates, which is statistically significant in creating a widened enrollment gap in 2004, which was smaller and not significant in 1994.

Sulfolobus turreted icosahedral virus (STIV) was isolated from acidic hot springs of Yellowstone National Park and was the first hyperthermophilic virus described with icosahedral capsid architecture. Structural analysis of the STIV particle and its major capsid protein suggests that it belongs to a lineage of viruses that predates the division of the three domains of life. Functional predictions of the viral proteins are hindered because they lack similarity to sequences of known function. Protein structure, however, may suggest functional relationships that are not apparent from the sequence. Thus, we have initiated crystallographic studies of STIV and expect to gain functional insight into its proteins while illuminating the viral life cycle. These studies may also provide genetic, biochemical, and evolutionary insight into its thermoacidophilic host and the requirements for life in these harsh environments. The first three proteins studied in structural detail are A197, B116, and F93. As anticipated, these structures suggest possible functions. The structure of A197 reveals a glycosyltransferase GT-A fold.

I have completed the class work needed for a Masters Degree concentrating in ''Resource Analysis''. The program required a practicum, internship or thesis to complete the degree. As do most IES students, I chose the internship option so that I could gain valuable hands-on experience in environmental consulting. I have always been interested in consulting work because it represented a bridge between environmentalists and developers who often entertain opposite goals. Here I could use my botanical and environmental background to ensure that developers and government entities develop the landscape within the framework of Ohio''s laws. In addition, I could work with engineers at EMH & T, Inc. to minimize the effects of development upon the environment under the current laws. A systematic structural analysis of the folds and faults determines the stress generating mechanism(s) responsible for their formation. Mechanisms considered include Appalachian tectonism, Paleozoic and contemporary strike-slip movements along Cross-Strike Structural Discontinuities (CSDs), flexural stresses generated by glacial loading, ice shove or ice drag, gravitational loading of stream beds, and deformation by the contemporary stress field. The results of this study indicate that the contemporary stress field, acting in conjunction with stresses from glacial loading, produces high, anisotropic horizontal stress that is deforming the bedrock within the study area.
