Εξετάζοντας τα επτά διηγήματα του βιβλίου εξονυχιστικά αλλά και με τρόπο απόλυτα κατανοητό και προσιτό στον αναγνώστη, ο Σόντερς όχι μόνο υποδεικνύει κάποια κλειδιά και μερικές τεχνικές που κάνουν μια αφήγηση πιο ενδιαφέρουσα, αλλά και «εκπαιδεύει» τον αναγνώστη πώς να απολαμβάνει τις κρυφές αρετές της λογοτεχνικής γραφής. Το Κολυμπώντας στη λιμνούλα υπό βροχήν, πολύτιμο εργαλείο για κάθε φίλο της λογοτεχνίας, φωτίζει καλύτερα τις σχέσεις ανάμεσα στις –ενίοτε όχι προφανείς με την πρώτη ματιά– αρετές ενός έργου μυθοπλασίας και στον αναγνώστη του.
