His remains fished out of Long Island Sound by young Terry Watson (following events in ADVENTURE COMICS vol. 1 #451), Starro slowly regains his former stature and powers. Transported to a Central Park lake by a mind-controlled Terry and his family, the starfish villain has an accidental encounter with Red Tornado and Wonder Woman, which alerts the other JLA heroes to his presence. After a brief scuffle, Reena surrenders to him and asks him for sanctuary. He brings Reena back to the Justice League Satellite, where she reveals the nature of the Ani-Men who have been attacking various League members. In Luxor, Egypt, Katar Hol is on a dig when his crew is attacked by giant scorpion-men. At Repli-Tech Industries, a scientist named Dr. Lovecraft reports to his master, the Ani-Man known as Maximus Rex.

Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and Zatanna, now in the bodies of the Secret Society members, escape imprisonment aboard the JLA satellite and attempt to return to their true forms. Using the super-villainsÕ powers, they overcome Red Tornado (who naturally mistakes them for the real villains) and learn the location of the Secret Society headquarters from an incarcerated former member, Hi-Jack. However, their attack is foiled by the appearance of the remaining Justice League heroes, who have been alerted by the five villains masquerading as Leaguers. All the heroes-turned-villains are captured, except Zatanna, who escapes in the guise of Star Sapphire.

In the 25th century Thomas Parker recounts to his son one of the Justice LeagueÕs adventures, in explanation of an exhibit in their honor in the Space Museum. Unknown to the JLA, the demons Abnegazar, Rath and Ghast had caused the mystic Jar, Bell and Wheel used to imprison them to be left behind in the Souvenir Room of the original Secret Sanctuary when the Justice League moved to their satellite headquarters. There, the artifacts were eventually discovered and used to free the demons from their crypts. The evil trio attacked the satellite during a meeting and was repulsed, then battled the heroes a second time at Stonehenge. In this rematch, ZatannaÕs magic proved the key to their defeat by reactivating the imprisonment spell using the Jar, Bell and Wheel.

He demands Rocky and Ace fly to England and perform an incantation from a mystical book and bring MÕNagalaÕs ÒfamilyÓ to Earth. They go, reluctantly. At Challengers Mountain, Clayburne (the wannabe Challenger) uses the computer to analyze ProfÕs infection. It recommends Dr. Alec Holland as an expert in Òbiochemical abnormalities.Ó Clayburne flies to Oregon, where Holland teaches, and he agrees to help. Outside London, Rocky chants at midnight in a pentacle, while Ace fetches a pack of jet fuel. MÕNagala-kin try to burst through a portal, all icky tentacles and squishy guts, but Ace chucks the fuel pod Òjust like JawsÓ and shoots, destroying the monster and shutting the portal. Clayburne and Holland land in Perdition, but in the dark, Holland starts to revert to Swamp Thing as his bio-restorative formula wears off. They find Prof half-consumed by icky polyps.
