Typescript copy from 1925-1926 of a calendar and index to the papers of the American Fur Company, prepared by ms. curator Grace Lee Nute at the New York Historical Society between Dec. 1922 and Sept 1925. The calendar, prepared through the cooperation of the state historical societies of New York, Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri, and Minnesota, Detroit Public Library, Indiana State Library, University of Illinois, and the Newberry Library, contains a chronological listing of the Company''s correspondence, notes on London exchange rates store books, order books, packing books (detailed records of skins packed between 1835 and 1842), invoices, receiving books, shipment lists (including names of shippers, vessels, and Company outfits), detailed classifications of furs and skins from 1835-1839, postage books, printed Indian treaties, inventories, and memoranda. Principal correspondents include Ramsay Crooks, Bernard Pratte, Joseph Rolette, Samuel Abbott, Robert Stuart, William Brewster, John Lawe, John Jacob Astor, Charles Borup, Frederic Baraga, John R. Livingston, G.W. and W.G. Ewing, Lyman M. Warren, Curtis M. Lampson, and officers of the Hudson''s Bay Company, Pratte, Chouteau and Company, and Pierre Chouteau Jr. & Company. The papers also provide much information on the woolen blanket trade, Great Lakes transportation, American foreign relations, current events and politics, banking conditions, insurance, secondary education, the Company''s subsidiary industries (fisheries, flour, maple sugar, copper, cranberries, lead, and sand for glass-making).

Income inequality has increased in China despite rapid economic growth. Income inequality could impinge on future development, leading to social tension or political instability. Our study investigates the short-run and long-run relationship between three important macroeconomic indicators--income inequality, economic growth and financial depth. We utilise a two-step procedure of ARDL bounds and Granger causality for the analysis. The bounds test indicates the presence of a cointegrating relationship between income inequality, financial depth and economic growth in the long run. In the second step, we utilise the Granger causality approach. Results show a bidirectional causality between financial depth-growth and a unidirectional causality between inequality-growth in the short run. In the long run, results reveal that growth and financial depth determine Gini. Our findings provide support for the inequality-widening effect due to economic growth and higher credit provided to the private sector. We find no evidence of inequality-narrowing or income-equalising effect in the long run for the period of study. It is possible that the government''s inclusive growth policies which started less than a decade ago have not taken effect for us to capture the inverted U-shape income equalising effect significantly.

Thyrotropin-releasing hormone-degrading ectoenzyme (TRH-DE) specifically hydrolyzes released thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH), limiting TRH action. Past studies suggest released TRH exerts an anxiolytic- and antidepressant-like effect, Additionally, increased TRH promotes negative energy balance. TRH-DE has been shown to be highly expressed in brain regions that subserve emotional behavior. Furthermore, a past study in our lab found central trhde overexpression was associated with vulnerability to obesity. The following studies in this thesis tested the hypothesis that reducing TRH-DE function by targeted gene knockout in mice would show an antidepressant- or anxiolytic-like effect, and would be leaner and less fatty. Adult male and female mice of wild type (WT), heterozygous and trhde knock-out (KO) genotypes were analyzed for whole-body energy expenditure, food intake and body composition after chow or high fat-diet challenge. To assess anxiety-like and antidepressant-like phenotypes, adult male and female mice were tested in the elevated plus maze, light-dark box, and forced swim behavioral tests. Adult female and male mice of WT and KO genotypes were then compared for operant self-administration of food+water and a highly reinforcing sucrose(3%)-saccharin(0.125%) solution. Energy expenditure (EE) analysis at 2 months old revealed KO mice have an altered circadian profile compared to WT, where KO have higher EE, with the greatest difference in the later half of the dark cycle.
