Transnational Alliances in Higher Education

release date: Jul 12, 2023
Transnational Alliances in Higher Education
Hana Fehrenbach’s book examines organizational level transnational strategic alliances. Through the perspectives of dynamic capabilities and neo-institutionalism, the study explores the interplay of rationales, pathways and benefits of transnational alliances over time of leading universities of technology (TU9) in Germany. Complex inter-connected dynamics at the macro (i.e. society), meso (i.e. organization) and micro-levels (i.e. individual) are examined in this qualitative study driven by a deductive approach. These interrelated dynamics are then reflected in a recursive process model called STANCE, which depicts how through these types of alliances, institutions of higher education position themselves in single or multiple organizational fields to gain (more) strategic and social fitness. The study is timely, considering the paucity of comprehensive and theoretically anchored research on this contemporary phenomenon, and the need for policy-makers and senior leadership to make evidence-based decisions.

Driven by Kundalini

release date: Dec 22, 2015
Driven by Kundalini
Driven by Kundalini by Hana Rubinstejnova is uncovering an honest, detailed and very personal account of a powerful spiritual experience of the author herself during and after a 10 day silent meditation retreat. There are not many books written by people who had their own powerful and life changing experience with spontaneous Kundalini Awakening & Rising. This book is different from other books on this topic because it is a very indepth description of the whole experience itself and also of it's after effects when the experience didn't go 'according to plan'. This book has been written to empower others and to shed so much needed light on this still rather mystical subject. Qualifications of the Author: Hana Rubinstejnova is qualified to write this book mainly by her own personal experience with Kundalini. Her professional qualifications: Certified Life Coach, NLP Master Practitioner & Trainer and Psychosomatic Therapist.

The Political Economy of Independence in Europe

release date: Apr 15, 2020
The Political Economy of Independence in Europe
This book examines secessionism, separatism, and calls for independence in the European Union in recent history and within an economic context. It contributes to the deeper understanding of factors influencing the individual decision-making processes around secession, using economic analysis to answer a set of simple questions about who the secessionists are, what they really want, what their incentives are, and why it is easier to declare their secessionist tendencies than to vote for secession. This a highly topical theme, given the secessionist referenda in Catalonia, Scotland, Ukraine, Kosovo, and the United Kingdom, and this book offers a unique contribution to the debate. It is based on an exclusive survey carried out among members of the pro-independence parties and movements across 17 European countries and 56 European regions. It uses the instruments of the Political Economy of Conflict to reveal the importance of romantic and economic factors influencing the drive towards secession. Secessions have been regarded as a purely romantic phenomenon that cannot be rationalised, whereas this book connects the sensibility of romantic factors such as language, religion or ethnicity with the sense of economic factors through its rational, economic approach. Furthermore, it applies the standard methodology of microeconomic analysis to discover the impact of individual pro-secessionist factors. An integral part of the text presents a brief historic overview, uncovering the lesser-known path dependency. The book will find an audience among researchers, scholars, and students of economics and political science, as well as policy-makers and professionals engaged with a secessionist agenda.

Christian Nationalism, Nation-Building, and the Making of the Holocaust in Slovakia

release date: Feb 10, 2025
Christian Nationalism, Nation-Building, and the Making of the Holocaust in Slovakia
Previous scholarship on fascism in Slovakia has focused on either state actors operating from urban centres or the mechanisms of violence on a grassroots level - with the result being that the Holocaust is seen as primarily a top-down and state-centred process. In contrast, Hana Kubátová reveals here a dynamic and unexplored centre-periphery relationship, and how violence against the Jewish population unfolded in both cities and the countryside, and on both national and local levels. As an integral component of broader nation-building efforts, the authority of the fascist regime and the newly-founded Slovak state hinged not only on appeasing Hitler but also on civilian populations of the nation's heterogenous eastern borderlands, especially local elites, such as priest and teachers, as well as the rural masses. The book explores how this relationship was forged, how it was maintained, and how, ultimately, Christian nationalism operated as a political strategy that brought differently positioned actors together - to broker deals over resources and power accrued through the co-enactment of genocide by a broad coalition of perpetrators on the ground. In so doing, this little-known chapter of Holocaust history offers a new way to understand the dynamics and escalations of mass violence, and how collaborations between elite and popular groups can pave the way for ethnic cleansing across different territories and, even, times.

Heaven Has No Ground

release date: Nov 14, 2023
Heaven Has No Ground
Heaven Has No Ground is the fierce, intimate story of Ama, a young woman who is reckoning with the death of her father when she receives her own cancer diagnosis and, contrary to the wishes of family and friends, decides to seek alternative treatments rather than conventional chemotherapy and radiation. While this book was published as a work of fiction to great acclaim in the Czech Republic, it follows very closely the life story of its author, Hana Andronikova, who wrote the book during a period of optimism in her own battle with breast cancer. Much like Hana, Ama travels the world to find guidance and healing—going to Peru to consult a shaman and receive the Amazon’s wisdom; to communities of Christian believers and Native Americans in the Nevada desert; and to the holy sites of Israel. Using striking metaphors and intensely emotional language in journal entries, emails, and narrative fragments, Andronikova takes us with her on a remarkable journey as she comes to grips with her human limitations and celebrates her place in the circle of life.
