The Story of Owen Connor: Trapped in the Asylum
Rock star Owen Connor was on his way home from a gig one night, nothing unusual there I agree... He woke up some time later trapped inside an old 1930's mental asylum. Owen has no memory of how he got there, read the book to find out what happened to the man. This book is a thriller with plot twists and humor thrown into the mix. It is also book one in a trilogy of books on the life of Owen Connor.

Productivity Growth and Changes in the Terms of Trade in Japan and the U.S.

Productivity Growth and Changes in the Terms of Trade in Japan and the U.S.
In this paper we employ a recently proposed procedure (Dlewert and Morrison[1985]) for adjusting real domestic product and productivity for changes in a country's terms of trade. We apply this procedure to a comparison of two major industrialized countries, the U.S. and Japan. The approach is based on assessing the impact on, alternatively, production or final sales to domestic purchasers, of changes in terms of trade and the balance of payments deficit in a consistent accounting framework. This treatment of international trade allows for comparative statics analysis based only on production theory. The comparison is carried out for a relatively open economy, Japan, with an economy that may not be as vulnerable to terms of trade changes, the U.S. for the years 1967 to 1982

Multi-Output, Nonfrontier Primal Measures of Capacity and Capacity Utilization

Multi-Output, Nonfrontier Primal Measures of Capacity and Capacity Utilization
This article implements an econometric approach for generating primal capacity output and utilization measures for fisheries. In situations where regulatory, environmental, and resource conditions affect catch levels but are not independently identified in the data, frontier-based capacity models may interpret such impacts as production inefficiency. However, if such inefficiencies are unlikely to be eliminated, the implied potential output increases may be unrealistic. We develop a multi-output, multi-input stochastic transformation function framework that permits various assumptions about how output composition may change when operating at full capacity. We apply our model to catcher-processor vessels in the Alaskan pollock fishery.

Inactivation and Injury of Salmonella Enterica Serovar Enteritidis in Buffer and Whole Liquid Egg During Treatment with Mild Heat, Ozone and Their Combinations

Inactivation and Injury of Salmonella Enterica Serovar Enteritidis in Buffer and Whole Liquid Egg During Treatment with Mild Heat, Ozone and Their Combinations
Liquid whole eggs were treated with mild heat and aqueous ozone. Heat treating eggs at 55.5 oC for 15 minutes reduced Salmonella Enteritidis by 1.9 log CFU/mL while ozone (8 ppm) did not cause a reduction in the Salmonella Enteritidis population. A combination process in which liquid whole eggs were treated with aqueous ozone after heat treatment resulted in a synergistic inactivation, reducing the Salmonella Enteritidis population by 3.8 log CFU/mL. Based on this outcome, a combined process of mild heat and ozone treatment can be made sufficiently lethal to meet pasteurization requirements in liquid whole eggs. Further optimization of the process in the future will ensure a higher quality liquid egg product and minimize the addition of water to the product during ozone treatment.

Attorney General Opinion
If a property owner has properly requested a tax exemption, K.S.A. 2006 Supp. 79-213(i) provides that taxes otherwise due as of that filing are not considered delinquent until the expiration of thirty days after the Board of Tax Appeals issues an order denying the exemption. Thus, a county treasurer should not attempt to collect such taxes by utilizing the procedures in K.S.A. 79-2302 and K.S.A. 2006 Supp. 79-2101 unless and until this occurs. However, pursuant to K.S.A. 2006 Supp. 79-213, the application for exemption does not impact delinquent taxes from uses or years prior to the date the exemption request was filed, granted or became effective. Thus, any tax delinquency falling outside the parameters of K.S.A. 2006 Supp. 79-213 may be listed or handled in accordance with standard tax collection procedures. Cited herein: K.S.A. 2006 Supp. 79-201a; 79-213; 29-2101; K.S.A. 79-2302; 79-2303.
