Joel Hodgson started out performing magic and ventriloquism in eighth grade and went on to create Mystery Science Theater 3000 in the late '80s. The show is still going strong with over 200 episodes and a Peabody Award for Excellence in Broadcasting. Also, its latest iteration on Netflix is rated at "100% Fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes. As a performer, Joel has appeared on Saturday Night Live, Freaks and Geeks, and voiced the role of Mayor Dewey on the animated series Steven Universe
