Nice: Walk & Eat

release date: Mar 15, 2015
Nice: Walk & Eat
This pocket-sized full-colour guide to walking in Nice and the Cte d''Azur is designed for short-break walking holidays using the excellent public transport services. Nice is easily and inexpensively reached by several budget airlines, and the climate makes for brilliant walking and excursions all year round. Besides Nice itself, the book describes walks and excursions in the most beautiful coastal and inland areas easily reached by public transport - from the Esterel in the west to Cap Martin in the east, and from the coast north to the Alps. Note: All of the 12 walking routes in this book are included in the same authors'' Landscapes of eastern Provence (which has 36 walks), so do use the ''Look Inside'' facility to compare coverage in the two guide books. Even ''non-walkers'' will appreciate the large-scale plan of Nice centre, descriptions of the sights, and recommendations for restaurants in Nice and places like Cap Ferrat, La Turbie, Menton, Thoule-sur-Mer. For each suggested restaurant there is a photograph of the dcor and one of their dishes, sample menu, price guide, opening times, and a recipe for one of their specialities. Other sections include: planning your trip, logistics on arrival, local markets and specialities, glossary of local food terms, and a restaurant mini-vocabulary. A special feature is the emphasis on natural local foods suitable for those with food intolerances. All recipes have been made by the authors and are known to ''work''. 12 walks and 2 fairly long excursions (1 by train and 1 by bus), with walks from each; plan of Nice; area map; large-scale (1:35,000) topo maps for the countryside walks. Free online update service with specific route change information on the publisher''s website, maintained daily.

release date: Jan 01, 2003
The Do-re-mi System of Music Notation Shorthand
"As many composers - both professional and amateur - know, musical ideas can be quickly lost if not written down promptly. This shorthand system allows the melody to be written down quickly, without requiring special paper or even an instrument. The composer can then later work with the melody, timing, and harmony, still using this key-independent notation, before creating the finished version in the desired key in conventional notation."

Foresters of the Raj

release date: Jan 01, 2013
Foresters of the Raj
ASIAN / MIDDLE EASTERN HISTORY. AUSTRALIAN. This author is a Western Australian forester who late in his career became involved in the development of Indian sandalwood plantations in the Ord River Irrigation Area in the Kimberley region of WA. This led to a review of early writings on sandalwood and to the discovery of a wounderful journal: The Indian Forester, the complete volumes of which, dating back to 1875, he found located within the archives of the Department of Environment and Conservation Library. Delving into these volumes, Roger Underwood realised that he had discovered a treaseure trove of fascinating stories about the pioneering foresters in India during the time of the Raj... But more than that he discovered that a forest management model had been developed in India in those days that was later picked up and applied holus-bolus in Australia and other countries.
