Step Forward!; A Christian 12-Step Program to Lose Weight-And Keep It Off! - Volume 1
Step Forward! is a four-unit program for adults who seek a more serious weight-management support group. The four units provide materials for 40 weeks. Structured like traditional 12-step programs, Step Forward! can be an on-going source of support for group members, one they can join at any time. Step Forward/meetings center on sharing meditations on Scripture, Bible study related to recovery topics, sharing food plans and exercise, learning or reinforcing facts about nutrition, celebrating progress, and prayer. Participants are encouraged to change "one day at a time." In the Participant''s Handbook, each person can record homework, reflections, meditations, and prayers.

Where Does Community Decision-making Fit?

Where Does Community Decision-making Fit?
"This thesis explores the ways in which the emerging field of sustainability addresses perceptions and questions of community. Within academic articles, research, and theories about sustainability, there are multiple definitions of community that are described, analyzed, and enacted upon. Within the accepted dimensions of sustainability systems discourse (ecology, economy, and social equity) community development is a key concern (Brundtland, 1987). For those focused on social justice and equity, there is a strong emphasis on inclusion, shared decision-making, and grassroots engagement - as well as a critique of how community is discursively presented. Although sustainability is interdisciplinary, many articles are written for and by practitioners in specific disciplinary homes each of which draw on notions of community differently, and as such, gaps are created in knowledge about community, particularly around the question of community participation. One of those gaps revealed by this research is around what I have come to call "community voice," which is representative of and acts as a stand-in for the interests and concerns of people being analyzed in peer-reviewed literature about sustainable systems. The people that live in communities affected by sustainable community development processes are often rendered silent and invisible through this discursive practice. This has the effect of erasing contexts from development decisions. As the field of sustainability continues to build and publish its discourse about community development, these discursive practices need to be accounted for. " -- from Overview.

Building Books from Books
This report documents the launch of a new Web application (BookRiff) as a case study of one opportunity for the book publishing industry to increase revenues by diversifying digital publishing platforms. Because this application is a venture of D&M Publishers Inc, it has a unique position among other digital initiatives that largely originate outside of the industry. As such, this study demonstrates both the needs of the publishing industry to expand digital revenue streams, and the capabilities and limitations of Internet applications to respond to those needs. Part one describes publishers'' current goals relating to digitization. Part two describes BookRiff as a viable incentive to overcome current problems, as well as a revolutionary idea in the digital publishing area. Part three documents building the site to demonstrate how publishers'' concerns are dealt with as the application takes shape, and how they will come into play as it continues to evolve.
