This is the eleventh Volume of "Beyond Salsa Piano", the fourteenth of the "Beyond Salsa" series, and the second on César "Pupy" Pedroso, founding pianist and composer of Los Van Van and leader of Los Que Son Son, two of the most popular and long-running bands in Cuban music history.Volume 10 began with Pupy''s first compositions for Los Van Van in 1979. Volume 11 covers the period from 1984 to 1988. Whenever we come to a song that has been re-arranged and re-recorded by Pupy''s present-day timba group, we study the modern group''s version as well. UNA (United Nations of Africa) is a work of fiction, but the facts used in its creation are a matter of public record. The woman, who uses the name Esther out of respect for the African missionaries who helped her as a child, takes Edward on an unexpected journey. Esther and others guide Edward away from the tyrant described by the General''¬"s enemies toward a man who led an army of refugees in an attempt to free the continent of Africa from those who wish to profit from its suffering. As they tell their stories about the General and the refugee army, Edward finds his preconceived notion of the General challenged until he can no longer deny the reality. By the end of the story Edward''¬"s notion of puppets and puppet masters turns as I hope the readers of UNA will view the powers of the world in a new light.

This paper develops a new combined-wealth measure by augmenting data on net worth from the Survey of Consumer Finances with estimates of defined benefit (DB) pension and expected Social Security wealth. We use this concept to explore retirement preparation among two groups of households in pre-retirement years (aged 40 through 49 and 50 through 59), and to explore the concentration of wealth. We find evidence of moderate, but rising, shortfalls in retirement preparation. We also show that including DB pension and Social Security wealth results in markedly lower measures of wealth concentration, and it slightly moderates trends toward a higher concentration over time.
