Alice's Adventures In Wonderland By Lewis Carroll (Annotated)
Alice''s Adventures in Wonderland, widely beloved British children''s book by Lewis Carroll, published in 1865. With its fantastical tales and riddles, it became one of the most popular works of English-language fiction. It was notably illustrated by British artist John Tenniel. The story centres on Alice, a young girl who falls asleep in a meadow and dreams that she follows the White Rabbit down a rabbit hole. She has many wondrous, often bizarre adventures with thoroughly illogical and very strange creatures, often changing size unexpectedly (she grows as tall as a house and shrinks to 3 inches [7 cm]). She encounters the hookah-smoking Caterpillar, the Duchess (with a baby that becomes a pig), and the Cheshire Cat, and she attends a strange endless tea party with the Mad Hatter and the March Hare. She plays a game of croquet with an unmanageable flamingo for a croquet mallet and uncooperative hedgehogs for croquet balls while the Queen calls for the execution of almost everyone present. Later, at the Queen''s behest, the Gryphon takes Alice to meet the sobbing Mock Turtle, who describes his education in such subjects as Ambition, Distraction, Uglification, and Derision. Alice is then called as a witness in the trial of the Knave of Hearts, who is accused of having stolen the Queen''s tarts. However, when the Queen demands that Alice be beheaded, Alice realizes that the characters are only a pack of cards, and she then awakens from her dream.

Through the Looking Glass (And What Alice Found There) By Lewis Carroll Illustrated (Penguin Classics)
Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There (1871) is a work of children''s literature by Lewis Carroll (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson), generally categorized as literary nonsense. It is the sequel to Alice''s Adventures in Wonderland (1865). Although it makes no reference to the events in the earlier book, the themes and settings of Through the Looking-Glass make it a kind of mirror image of Wonderland: the first book begins outdoors, in the warm month of May, on Alice''s birthday (May 4), uses frequent changes in size as a plot device, and draws on the imagery of playing cards; the second opens indoors on a snowy, wintry night exactly six months later, on November 4 (the day before Guy Fawkes Night), uses frequent changes in time and spatial directions as a plot device, and draws on the imagery of chess. In it, there are many mirror themes, including opposites, time running backwards, and so on.

A Tangled Tale
"Goblin, lead them up and down." The ruddy glow of sunset was already fading into the sombre shadows of night, when two travellers might have been observed swiftly—at a pace of six miles in the hour—descending the rugged side of a mountain; the younger bounding from crag to crag with the agility of a fawn, while his companion, whose aged limbs seemed ill at ease in the heavy chain armour habitually worn by tourists in that district, toiled on painfully at his side. As is always the case under such circumstances, the younger knight was the first to break the silence. "A goodly pace, I trow!" he exclaimed. "We sped not thus in the ascent!" "Goodly, indeed!" the other echoed with a groan. "We clomb it but at three miles in the hour." And on the dead level our pace is——?" the younger suggested; for he was weak in statistics, and left all such details to his aged companion. "Four miles in the hour," the other wearily replied. "Not an ounce more," he added, with that love of metaphor so common in old age, "and not a farthing less!" "''Twas three hours past high noon when we left our hostelry," the young man said, musingly. "We shall scarce be back by supper-time. Perchance mine host will roundly deny us all food!" "He will chide our tardy return," was the grave reply, "and such a rebuke will be meet." "A brave conceit!" cried the other, with a merry laugh. "And should we bid him bring us yet another course, I trow his answer will be tart!" TO MY PUPIL. Beloved pupil! Tamed by thee, Addish-, Subtrac-, Multiplica-tion, Division, Fractions, Rule of Three, Attest thy deft manipulation! Then onward! Let the voice of Fame From Age to Age repeat thy story, Till thou hast won thyself a name Exceeding even Euclid''s glory! This Tale originally appeared as a serial in The Monthly Packet, beginning in April, 1880. The writer''s intention was to embody in each Knot (like the medicine so dexterously, but ineffectually, con-cealed in the jam of our early childhood) one or more mathematical questions "in Arithmetic, Algebra, or Geometry, as the case might be" for the amusement, and possible edification, of the fair readers of that Magazine. lEWIS CARROLL

Illustrated Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll
Through the Looking-Glass is a novel by Lewis Carroll, and is the spin-off of Alice''s Adventures in Wonderland. Set approximately a half year later than the previous book, Alice again enters a fantastical world, this time by moving through a mirror into the world that she can see past it. Through the Looking-Glass incorporates such commended sections as "Jabberwocky" and "The Walrus and the Carpenter", and the scene including Tweedledum and Tweedledee. The mirror which enlivened Carroll remains showed in Charlton Kings. The characters of Hatta and Haigha (articulated as the English would have said "hatter" and "rabbit") show up, and are envisioned (by Sir John Tenniel, not via Carroll) to take after their Wonderland partners, the Hatter and the March Hare. Notwithstanding, Alice doesn''t remember them in that capacity. Dinah, Alice''s feline, additionally makes a return - this time with her two cats, Kitty (the dark one) and Snowdrop (the white one).

Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There
Lewis Carroll''s masterpiece, Through the Looking Glass, is brought to life in the stunning artwork of Maggie Taylor. Her prints incorporate photographic elements, scanned illustrations, sculptures, and artifacts pinned against timeless backgrounds. Her images--at once beautiful and menacing, real and surreal--create a visual counterpoint to Carroll''s writing style. She casts numerous individuals into the ever-changing roles and circumstances of the bewildered Alice, creating a complex, multi-faceted every-woman still easy to identify in each scene. This modern digital approach to a classic tale is a collaboration Carroll himself would have truly enjoyed.

Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
Since childhood, Yayoi Kusama has been afflicted with a condition that makes her see spots, which means she sees the world in a surreal, almost hallucinogenic way that sits very well with the Wonderland of Alice. She is also fascinated by childhood and the way adults have the ability, at their most creative, to see things the way children do, a central concern of the Alice books. This special, limited-edition numbered volume is to be colour illustrated with a clothbound jacket, and produced to very high specification. Kusama''s images are interspersed throughout the text and the book features a pull-out print to keep and frame. Each copy will be signed by the artist.
