Worry-Free Living

release date: May 13, 2014
Worry-Free Living
Winning Your Family''s Battle Over Worry Worry Free Living explores every family''s daily battles with stress from three perspectives - how it affects our mind, body, and spirit - and gives readers easy-to-follow plans for finding relief. The authors help parents identify what''s bugging their families and how to clarify their worries, sorting them into those they can and cannot do something about. What''s more, Cole and Ross have filled various chapters with the latest Back to the Bible research findings from Pamela Ovwigho, PhD - a leading researcher with the Center for Bible Engagement. They also include some of the best insights, advice, and treatment options from a variety of medical professionals. Most importantly, they explain everything within the understanding of a Master Creator, God, who is the ultimate Counselor and Healer. Ideal for individual use and group study, this resource helps readers: 1. Uncover the most common worries and stress-points of men, women, kids, and "twenty-somethings" in our care 2. Become self-aware: evaluating the stress in our households and plotting realistic steps toward change 3. Reach out to those we love-from worried spouses and in-laws to teens and young children 4. Understand the difference between the mind (what we think) and the brain (the physical processes of chemical reactions) ... and how they contribute to worry 5. Learn to de-stress our thinking and calm down our bodies 6. Give up unhealthy religiosity-such as the false belief that "worrying is a sign that we lack faith" 7. Reject the myth that we are in control and learn to take Jesus at His word: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). In the words of Dr. Archibald Hart (one of the experts interviewed in this book), "You must come down from the ''hills'' of stress and into the ''valleys'' of rest on a daily basis." Our bodies are not designed for a continual state of fear, worry, and anxiety - but instead for continual tranquility with short bursts of adrenaline. Worry Free Living shows moms, dads, caregivers, and ministers alike how to break the cycle of unnecessary suffering and find peace in Christ.

The Shy Manifesto

release date: Apr 01, 2019
The Shy Manifesto
Last night I tried not to be shy, just as an experiment for one night - and with catastrophic results. 17 year old Callum is proud to be shy and he thinks you should be too, because what this noisy, crazy world needs right now is a bit more self-restraint. The Shy Manifesto is a bittersweet coming-of-age comedy drama about a shy boy who is fed up of constantly being told to come out of his shell. Tonight he is to address an audience of radical shy comrades and incite the meek to finally rise up and inherit the earth. But memories of the previous night''s drunken escapades at a classmate''s end-of-term party keep intruding, and threaten to upend the fragile identity he has created for himself. Callum delivers his manifesto, exploring adolescence, isolation, self-loathing and sexuality. His irreverent lightness of touch, and multi- rolling as the other characters in his story endear him to the audience, encouraging us that we, too, can be proud to be shy. The Shy Manifesto is a solo piece that takes the experience of being shy as its central subject- something which has rarely been explored in drama, and yet which touches on many audience members lives.

A Primer on Pontryagin's Principle in Optimal Control

release date: Mar 03, 2015
A Primer on Pontryagin's Principle in Optimal Control
EDITORIAL REVIEW: This book provides a guided tour in introducing optimal control theory from a practitioner''s point of view. As in the first edition, Ross takes the contrarian view that it is not necessary to prove Pontryagin''s Principle before using it. Using the same philosophy, the second edition expands the ideas over four chapters: In Chapter 1, basic principles related to problem formulation via a structured approach are introduced: What is a state variable? What is a control variable? What is state space? And so on. In Chapter 2, Pontryagin''s Principle is introduced using intuitive ideas from everyday life: Like the process of "measuring" a sandwich and how it relates to costates. A vast number of illustrations are used to explain the concepts without going into the minutia of obscure mathematics. Mnemonics are introduced to help a beginner remember the collection of conditions that constitute Pontryagin''s Principle. In Chapter 3, several examples are worked out in detail to illustrate a step-by-step process in applying Pontryagin''s Principle. Included in this example is Kalman''s linear-quadratic optimal control problem. In Chapter 4, a large number of problems from applied mathematics to management science are solved to illustrate how Pontryagin''s Principle is used across the disciplines. Included in this chapter are test problems and solutions. The style of the book is easygoing and engaging. The classical calculus of variations is an unnecessary prerequisite for understanding optimal control theory. Ross uses original references to weave an entertaining historical account of various events. Students, particularly beginners, will embark on a minimum-time trajectory to applying Pontryagin''s Principle.
