Little Hands Help

release date: Sep 01, 2019
Little Hands Help
Little Hands Help is the second book in our Small Voice series. It is intended for our little ones as they enter their pre-school and kindergarten years and continue into their early grade school years. We soon learn that our young children want to imitate what we are doing. Initially they just want to be more included in family life - but soon that feeling of truly helping creates a new motivation. It can be as simple as letting them wash the carrots at the sink. But when those carrots show up at the dinner table, a powerful sense of accomplishment ensues. Over time, these little investments in our kids add up. Even the littlest ones can pitch in - deepening the family bond. But beware, sometimes our time-deficient lives can get in the way of letting our children fully participate alongside us. Here''s the deal. Whether a child learns to be helpful as they grow older is mostly influenced by early family life. In other words, when helpfulness is valued and learned at an early age, it becomes part of the child''s self-image (I am a helper, I can do this). Of all the gifts we can bestow on our kids, few would compare to cultivating a natural tendency for helping others!

Behind The Membership

release date: Aug 26, 2019
Behind The Membership
In 2017 we launched a new podcast series called "Behind the Membership". Its aim was to dig deep into the stories of real people running real, successful online membership businesses. Not to give them a platform to blow their own trumpet, but to get to the heart of what made them tick, how their journey had unfolded and what insights they''d picked up along the way. We had the privilege of uncovering some absolute gold in those conversations - an incredible wealth of insight and experience that was just too valuable to leave languishing in the archives of the podcast, so we''ve compiled the biggest takeaways into this book. These are real people, real memberships, real stories. Enjoy.

Systems Thinking Made Easy

release date: Dec 23, 2016
Systems Thinking Made Easy
SeriesThis topic of systems thinking may make your eyes glaze over - but hang in there. Your attention could not be needed more at this point in our collective human history. It is time for us to take the next leap in thinking - to systems thinking. Quite simply it is the art of seeing things as interconnected and interdependent - part of a larger, more meaningful pattern. Without restraint we accept the notion that keeping the larger picture in mind enhances our personal responses to problems; brings needed perspective to big decisions; and helps to shape lasting solutions to our deepest problems. But our capabilities as systems thinkers are . . . well . . . hopelessly human. We will take a journey together to not only explore - but to build some new capabilities in systems thinking. First, we will see how systems thinking is not really "new thinking" at all - but has been the aim of many cultures that have sought the elusive wisdom that comes from seeing the whole. Let the journey begin!

This Is Not Working

release date: Apr 01, 2012
This Is Not Working
Our lives – and our leadership journeys – tend to follow one of two paths: the “conventional” and the “unconventional.” The conventional path is driven by our work cultures – cultures that tend to thrive on action, activity, and results. That''s why it''s called work. So, when we are at work, we need to be doing something (anything). We also know that our lives are accelerating in terms of increasing complexity, unmanageable aspects of time, escalating expectations, and declining resources. Welcome to the age of anxiety. In the process, we are losing our sense of community and our ability to be fully present for each other when we are needed most. As a result, our work cultures are losing their capacity to create enough gravitational pull to keep the organization “whole.” It is no surprise that we are living at the outer edges. Without a connection to a unifying center, we play the smaller game, where vulnerability and anxiety rein. This is not working. The center is not holding. We need to rethink our way forward. That is the ultimate aim of this book -- to bring both hope and clarity in defining that pathway forward.
