This research study identified both the spiritual perceptions and attitudes of nurse practitioners in spiritual care provision and the spiritual care practices in the state of Idaho. The study design was a descriptive correlational design. The sample was 234 (a 65% response rate) nurse practitioners in the state of Idaho in the primary care setting. The instruments used were Reed''s Spiritual Perspective Scale and the Nurses'' Spiritual Care Perspective Scale, modified from the Oncology Spiritual Care Perspectives Survey by Taylor, Highfield, and Amenta. A positive relationship between spiritual self-perception and attitudes towards spiritual care was found, along with a positive relationship between spiritual self-perception and providing spiritual care interventions. Further research needs to be done to examine the patient''s expectations of the nurse practitioner''s role in providing spiritual care, to determine the barriers that limit the nurse practitioner in providing spiritual care, and to assess faculty spiritual care knowledge and attitudes.
