Alec is excited about being the fastest runner in school and being voted 5th grade class president. Tyrod, on the other hand is not excited about this at all because he used to be the fastest runner in school. To regain the title he challenges Alec to a rematch. The PE teacher has a better idea. He invites both Alec and Tyrod to be a part of the school track team. Determined to not let Tyrod stop him from having fun, Alec joins the team. Just when he starts to have fun after learning how to ignore Tyrod, Alec finds out that his grandmother is getting sicker from the cancer. Alec has a hard time accepting this news about his grandmother and things start to fall apart. He stops hanging out with his friends, including his close buds, Morgan and Trey. He lets the class meetings get out of order. It''s not until Alec starts volunteering with a Special Olympics team that he starts to be himself again. As he works with the team he realizes that if kids who are physically limited can give their all...so can he. Alec gets excited all over again and kicks thing into gear. He brings the 5th grade class back together to work on the end-of-the-yearactivities. He works hard making things right with Tyrod and becoming friends with him. He does his part on the track relay team and helps them win the county title. In the midst of all of these great things happening, Alec loses his grandmother. As he deal with his sadness, he is able to hold on to a spark of hope as he thinks about how proud his grandmother would be of him for taking the lead and using the skills God gave him to help others.

Alec is frustrated over lots of things. His mom is still in LA working on a project, Tyrod, the troublemaker is still getting under his skin and to top it all off, his dad gets a promotion and is now the assistant principal at his school. Why bother trying hard is Alec''s attitude, things are bad and nothing''s going his way. He doesn''t really see how things can be worse until he goes to class and learns that Tyrod''s best buddy and another troublemaker, Zarrick is in his class. At home Alec finds out that his grandmother has cancer and he doesn''t know what to do. In response to all that''s going on in his life Alec begins to act out in school, sleep in class and hang around with the wrong crowd. To protect himself, he starts taking karate lessons. With the help of his karate instructor, parents, old friends, Alec learns that being disciplined and learning to respond to things in a way that pleases God are important when it comes to winning the battle.

The school year is ending and Alec is looking forward to taking it easy, sleeping late and not having to deal with Tyrod for the summer. He is also looking forward to his mom coming home. But, when his dad plans a party and his mom doesn''t show Alec''s hopes are crushed. He finds out that his mom has decided to stay in L.A. a little longer. Rather than sulking all summer, Alec decides to try to make the best of it by hanging out with his friends at the new neighborhood pool. But, his dad has other plans for him and Antoine. Dad has decided to sent them to a summer baseball camp. Alec couldn''t believe this, he hated baseball. When Alec and Antoine goes to baseball camp, Alec is miserable. Their coach is a drill sargeant and Tyrod shows up. While Antoine is fast becoming buddies with Antoine Alec is struggling because he doesn''t feel like anything he does pleases the coach. He wants to quit but his dad gives him a pep talk about winners never quitting. So, Alec stays in the program. Alec gets a big surprise when mom invites the family to come and visit. The boys get a chance to tour the city with mom. When mom goes back to work she enrolls them in an acting camp. Alec doesn''t think much of the camp to start but soon he finds himself warming up to acting. Antoine become jealous of him when he gets a part in a commercial but Alec does his best to make his brother feel included. Alec auditions for huge part on a Disney Show and gets a callback. When she finds out, his mom tells him he can not accept the part because he has to go home. Alec is not happy and does not know what to do. When they go to church, the pastor talks about pleasing God. Alec realizes that even when things don''t go his way he should try to please God in all that he does and obey his parents.

The next time Brook tries to talk Morgan into doing what she knows is wrong, Morgan decides to do the right thing.

Once again Morgan feels bad and sees that going along with the crowd is not always a smart thing to do. Later, while playing together, Morgan and her cousins all share a secret wish. Morgan wanted to be prettier. Drake wanted to be taller. Sadie wanted longer hair.When Morgan goes to vacation bible school she learns that God made each person just the way they are for a good reason. As she thinks about this, the wishes she and her cousins made and even those other kids she laughed at, Morgan realizes that they are okay just the way they are and that to God they are all something special.

If Morgan got a grade for her attitude and her actions it would be an F. But after her mommy gets really sick and Morgan thinks her mommy is going to die she starts to feel bad about her attitude and realizes how mean she’s been to almost everybody. Though she is having a hard time adjusting to all the new things in her life, especially her new baby brother and stepdad, Derek, Morgan makes up her mind that no matter what is going on, she is going to have an A+ attitude.
