Over the years I have shared anecdotes with friends and colleagues from the times that I worked in mental hospitals. My daughters Elizabeth and Catherine have encouraged me to put down in writing the stories that seemed to capture their attention and others who have heard them. Like many people I have talked about writing a book and now with their encouragement I have done it. I have worked in six mental hospitals in different capacities over the years. Nowadays most mental hospitals have been closed or in a few cases reduced in size leaving only a few beds on what were massive sites often with their own farms creating a self-sufficient community.
