On Care for Our Common Home

release date: Aug 01, 2015
On Care for Our Common Home
Pope Francis landmark encyclical, On Care for Our Common Home, is addressed to every living person on this planet. It challenges each one of us to ask ourselves, our corporations, and our governments: How can anyone claim they are building a better future without thinking of the environment? The document is all-encompassing, calling for respect and protection not only of the earth, but also of the dignity and lives of the poor. Pope Francis stresses that human life is itself a gift which must be defended from various forms of debasement. Proposals for dialogue and action in the encyclical are broad, but are meant to affect international policy as well as individual lives.

Laudato Si'

release date: Jan 01, 2015
Laudato Si'
Addressed not only to Catholics but to"every person living on this planet," Pope Francis'' second encyclical is a challenging call for a "bold cultural revolution" in how we think about technological progress and economic growth. The degradation of our environment, he says, is a symptom of deeper problems: rapid change, unsustainable overconsumption, indifference to the poor, and the decay of social values. He offers a variety of solutions, including a change in lifestyles away from "extreme consumerism" and towards a greater sense of social responsibility. For Christians, an "ecological spirituality"-one that is grounded in the convictions of our faith- is not "an optional or a secondary aspect of our Christian experience." Drawing on the rich social teachings of the Church, Laudato Si is a groundbreaking document that will be discussed and studied by both believers and non-believers for years to come. Study guide included for Reflection and Discussion,

release date: Oct 02, 2020
Fratelli Tutti. Encyclical Letter on Fraternity and Social Friendship
The volume contains the text of the third Encyclical Letter of Pope Francis "on fraternity and social friendship" signed at Assisi on 3 October 2020. The title is inspired by the writing of St. Francis: "Let us all, brothers, consider the Good Shepherd who to save His sheep bore the suffering of the Cross"(Admonitions, 6, 1: FF 155) and is itself one of the focal points of the magisterium of Francis who from the evening of his election, March 13, 2013, presents himself to the world with the word "brothers". These brothers are the invisible ones he embraces in Lampedusa, the immigrants, in his first journey as a Pope. Also Shimon Peres and Abu Mazen who shook hands with the Pope in 2014 are also an example of that fraternity that had peace as its goal. Until last year''s Declaration at Abu Dhabi, also in this case a document on "human fraternity" which, according to Francis, "comes from faith in God who is Father of all and Father of peace".

Vultum Dei Quaerere

release date: Sep 15, 2016
Vultum Dei Quaerere
In his latest address to consecrated people, Pope Francis expresses his appreciation for "contemplative sisters", emphasising that the Church needs them "to bring today''s men and women to the good news of the Gospel". This is not an easy mission, in view of the current situation in the world, which Francis suggests is "dominated by the mindset of power, wealth and consumerism". However, this is the challenge indicated by the Pope to contemplative sisters: to be "beacons and torches" that guide and accompany humanity on its journey and a "stairway" by which God descends to encounter humanity, and humanity ascends to encounter God and to contemplate his face in the face of Christ.

Gaudete Et Exsultate

release date: Apr 10, 2018
Gaudete Et Exsultate
''Holiness is a gift that is offered to everyone, no one is excluded; it constitutes the distinctive character of every Christian''Pope Francis wants the whole Church to promote anew the desire for holiness - in a practical way, for our own time. After analysing and forcefully dismissing two subtle enemies to holiness - contemporary gnosticism and pelagianism - as ''aberrations and obstacles'' to holiness, Francis appeals in detail to the Beatitudes of Matthew and Luke. Here lies the path to our happiness, or, indeed our holiness, by living out the demands and joys of the Gospel. More deeply yet, the Holy Father identifies those harmful ideologies which today strike at the heart of the Gospel, where faith is divorced from deeds, where mercy is lost. Our striving for holiness must be grounded in prayer and discernment so that our lives are transformed in the light of mercy and grace. This entails action and building the Kingdom through social action and care for the marginalised. Pope Francis offers five great expressions of love of God and of neighbour as signs of true holiness for today''s culture. Finally, he sets out the landscape in which today''s spiritual combat is fought against the great enemy, the devil. This calls for vigilance and discernment. Thus, the joyful holiness of the Gospel is revealed to the world in the everyday lives of ordinary people.

Looking to address the concerns and hopes of today’s men and women, Our Father: Reflections on the Lord’s Prayer is a guide to living a life full of meaning, purpose, and strength. “We need courage to pray the Our Father,” writes Pope Francis, “to truly believe that God is the Father who accompanies us, forgives us, gives us bread, is attentive to all that we ask, clothes us even better than the flowers of the field. To believe is a big risk.” Challenging this doubt and fear, he issues a call to “dare . . . help oneanother to dare.” With excerpts from some of the Pontiff’s most cherished teachings, this beautiful work offers words of encouragement and inspiration for all who are seeking hope and direction in our often tumultuous world.
