New Releases by R. Scott Bakker

With this shattering final novel, " it can at last be said that Bakker has written the epic fantasy series of the post-Tolkien era " (Speculiction). The Men of the Great Ordeal have been abandoned by Anasurimbor Kellhus, and the grand crusade has devolved into cannibalism and chaos. When Exalt-General Proyas attempts to gain control of the lost Men and continue their march to Golgotterath, it becomes clear that the lost Lord-and-Prophet is not so easily shaken from the mission. As Sorweel, the Believer-King of Sakarpus, and Serwa, daughter of the Aspect-Emperor, join the Great Ordeal, they discover that the shortest path is not always the safest. Souls, morality, and relationships are called into question when no one can be trusted, and the price for their sins is greater than they imagined. An uncompromising portrayal of a catastrophic world of myth, war, and sorcery, the Aspect-Emperor books have earned their place alongside George R. R. Martin''s A Song of Ice and Fire. Powerful and haunting, this thrilling final installment of Bakker''s groundbreaking series is "no holds barred from page one" ( Speculiction).

An empress seeks her lost son as rival factions prepare for war in the long-awaited third novel of this acclaimed fantasy epic. As Fanim war-drums beat just outside the city, the Empress Anasurimbor Esmenet searches frantically throughout the palace for her missing son Kelmomas. Many miles away, Esmenet''s husband''s Great Ordeal continues its epic march further north. But in light of dwindling supplies, the Aspect-Emperor''s decision to allow his men to consume the flesh of fallen Sranc could have consequences even He couldn''t have foreseen. And, deep in Ishuäl, the wizard Achamian grapples with his fear that his unspeakably long journey might be ending in emptiness, no closer to the truth than when he set out.

The epic fantasy adventure of warring emperors, wizards, and gods continues in this sequel to The Judging Eye. Ruler Anasurimbor Kellhus and his Great Ordeal march ever farther into the Ancient North, toward an epic conflict with the Consult. Disciple of the Dog, a crime thriller from acclaimed master of speculative fiction R. Scott Bakker "And you wonder why I''m cynical. I''ve literally ''seen it all before.'' The truth is we all have, every single one of us past the age of, say, twenty-five. The only difference is that I remember." No matter how hard he drinks, gambles, or womanizes, Disciple Manning simply cannot forget: not a word spoken, not an image glimpsed, not a pain suffered. Disciple Manning has total recall. Whatever he hears, he can remember with 100% accuracy. He can play it back in his head for an infinite number of times without a single change. This ability makes him a dangerously unorthodox private investigator. When a New Jersey couple hires Manning to find their daughter, who joined a religious cult before vanishing in a small rust-belt town called Ruddick, he finds himself embroiled in a mystery that will pit his unnatural ability to remember against his desperate desire to forget.

From the dark mind of R. Scott Bakker comes a psychological thriller that will get inside your head, literally.

A mysterious traveler intervenes in an epic holy war in this "impressive, challenging debut" of the critically acclaimed fantasy epic ( Publishers Weekly, starred review). The first book in R. Scott Bakker''s Prince of Nothing series introduces readers to a strikingly original and engrossingly vivid new world. With its language and classes of people, its cities, religions, mysteries, taboos, and rituals, The Darkness That Comes Before has drawn comparison to J.R.R. Tolkien''s The Lord of the Rings and Frank Herbert''s Dune. Bakker''s Eärwa is a world scarred by an apocalyptic past, evoking a time both two thousand years past and two thousand years into the future. As untold thousands gather for a crusade, two men and two women are ensnared by a mysterious traveler, Anasûrimbor Kellhus—part warrior, part philosopher, part sorcerous, charismatic presence—from lands long thought dead. The Darkness That Comes Before is a history of this great holy war, and like all histories, the survivors write its conclusion.

"A daringly unconventional series in the Tolkien mould." --Publishers Weekly Only Shimeh remains. The Padirajah has been slain, and the heathen Fanim have fled in disarray. One final march will bring the Holy War to the City of the Latter Prophet. But so very much has changed... The final reckoning is at hand. Faceless assassins will strike in the dead of night. Kings and emperors will fall. The sorcerous Schools will be unleashed. And Anasûrimbor Kellhus will at last confront his father. If Kellhus could subvert an entire holy war within a year, what has Moënghus accomplished in thirty? What is the meaning of his Thousandfold Thought?

As the Holy War continues its' southward march, it is itself conquered from within--by Anasurimbor Kellhus.
