Robert Frost on Writing

Robert Frost on Writing
Robert Frost was of course a great poet, but he was equally a marvelous teacher who delighted in discussing the nature of writing. Elaine Barry has collected a superb group of Frost letters, reviews, introductions, lectures, and interviews dating all the way back to 1913. In addition to all the major Frost letters on the nature of writing thus far published, Miss Barry includes newly discovered letters and material she came upon while researching this book. Miss Barry integrates this collection of "Frost on Writing" with a shrewd and sympathetic analysis of the scope of his literary criticism. Here is Frost''s view of literature and its relation to language, and beyond language, to social order. The book adds to the picture of Frost''s connections with the literary figures of his time; it is both a delight and a discovery. -- From publisher''s description.

The Runaway

release date: Apr 01, 2006
The Runaway
One of Robert Frost''s most appealing children''s poems. The poet depicts a rolling upland meadow in New England just as autumn turns to winter & snow begins to fall. A child & mother are out for a walk & are captivated by a young colt, bewildered & skittish, reacting to his first encounter with falling snow. With striking tableaus, bold shapes, & sumptuous colors, the artist evokes the archetypal New England landscape crisscrossed with stone walls & inhabited by farm animals. The winsome colt, sympathetic child, & playful dog will engage the young reader in this moving poem about caretaking & concern for young creatures. Unknown situations are not always as frightening as at first they might appear, & a comforting presence is never far away.Ó

A Witness Tree

release date: Jan 01, 2019
A Witness Tree
This collection was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1943. Most of the poems in this volume are short lyrics, published after several unfortunate tragedies had occurred in Frost''s personal life, i.e. his daughter Marjorie''s death in 1934, his wife''s death in 1938, his son Carol''s suicide in 1940. Despite these losses, Frost continued to work on his poetry and eventually fell in love with his secretary Kay Marrison, who became the primary inspiration of the love poems in this collection. This collection is the last of Frost''s books that demonstrates the seamless lyric quality of his earlier poems. The most popular poem of this volume is "The Gift Outright", a patriotic poem that was recited at the presidential inauguration of John F. Kennedy in 1961.
