Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
No doubt the feat was easy to Mr. Utterson; for he was undemonstrative at the best, and even his friendship seemed to be founded in a similar catholicity of good-nature. It is the mark of a modest man to accept his friendly circle ready-made from the hands of opportunity; and that was the lawyer''s way. His friends were those of his own blood or those whom he had known the longest; his affections, like ivy, were the growth of time, they implied no aptness in the object. Hence, no doubt, the bond that united him to Mr. Richard Enfield, his distant kinsman, the well-known man about town. It was a nut to crack for many, what these two could see in each other, or what subject they could find in common. It was reported by those who encountered them in their Sunday walks, that they said nothing, looked singularly dull, and would hail with obvious relief the appearance of a friend. For all that, the two men put the greatest store by these excursions, counted them the chief jewel of each week, and not only set aside occasions of pleasure, but even resisted the calls

Catriona
"Catriona" by Robert Louis Stevenson is a sequel to his earlier novel "Kidnapped," continuing the adventures of David Balfour. Set in 18th century Scotland, the narrative follows David as he navigates a complex web of political intrigue and personal loyalty. The story begins with David''s newfound fortune and status, but he soon finds himself embroiled in the aftermath of the Appin murder, a politically charged crime that has left the country in turmoil. David''s sense of justice and loyalty to his friend Alan Breck Stewart, who is wrongfully accused of the murder, compels him to take action. He seeks the assistance of various influential figures, including Mr. Charles Stewart, a lawyer, and Lord Advocate Prestongrange, to clear Alan''s name and save James Stewart, another accused. Throughout his journey, David encounters a range of characters, including the enigmatic Catriona Drummond, who becomes a significant figure in his life. The novel explores themes of justice, loyalty, and the struggle for personal integrity amidst political chaos. Stevenson''s vivid portrayal of Scotland''s landscape and the intricate plot make "Catriona" a compelling continuation of David Balfour''s story.

Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is a novella written by the Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson and first published in 1886. It is about a London lawyer who investigates strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr Henry Jekyll, and the misanthropic Edward Hyde. The work is known for its vivid portrayal of a split personality, split in the sense that within the same person there is both an apparently good and an evil personality each being quite distinct from each other; in mainstream culture the very phrase "Jekyll and Hyde" has come to mean a person who is vastly different in moral character from one situation to the next. This is different from multiple personality disorder where the different personalities do not necessarily differ in any moral sense. Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde was an immediate success and one of Stevenson''s best-selling works. Stage adaptations began in Boston and London within a year of its publication and it has gone on to inspire scores of major film and stage performances.

The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
One of the greatest books ever written! "Quiet minds cannot be perplexed or frightened but go on in fortune or misfortune at their own private pace, like a clock during a thunderstorm." In September of 1884, Robert Louis Stevenson, then in his mid-thirties, moved with his family to Bournemouth, a resort on the southern coast of England, where in the brief span of 23 months he revised A Child''s Garden of Verses and wrote the novels Kidnapped and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. An intriguing combination of fantast thriller and moral allegory, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde depicts the gripping struggle of two opposing personalities -- one essentially good, the other evil -- for the soul of one man. Its tingling suspense and intelligent and sensitive portrayal of man''s dual nature reveals Stevenson as a writer of great skill and originality, whose power to terrify and move us remains, over a century later, undiminished.
