Human by Design

release date: Nov 20, 2020
Human by Design
Confronting a hunger for intimacy with God, Human by Design delves into struggles with identity, love, guilt, and reconciliation. In this collection of poetry, we experience the emotion that surrounds the intricacies of this divine relationship while being human, finding balance, and finding ourselves.WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING"Rivera is a woman who is crying out from the depths of herself to YOU-you her God, you her audience, you herself, and you, the people and memories of her past. Written like a fighter, weaving combinations of rhythmic, lyric verse that is at once ferocious and controlled, Human By Design is a chapbook of poems that demands to be spoken, grabs hold of its angels, and sings a full, impassioned cry for life, love, and sustenance through God."-Sam Fischer, author of Short Cycles"Human by Design is authentically crafted and soulfully executed. Rivera takes you on a spiritual journey as you fight alongside her, healing from the past and finding purpose in the present."-Laura Rowan

Poetry. Jewish American. SHORT CYCLES transforms-it is the gentle exploration of how things change even in the smallest of moments: from pin pricks to wheat fields; from carried bread to trolly rides; from waking up in the middle of the night to an unfolding reality to staring into the eyes of a lover and seeing what has never occurred. With simple, gentle, prose, SHORT CYCLES invites readers to unwind into a world blossoming with rhythm, image, and sound.

Toho Journal: Unity (Vol1, No 1)
Toho Publishing has years of experience editing journals, and we're finally creating our own! In conjunction with Green Street Poetry and St. Michael's Lutheran in Kensington, we present Toho Journal. We publish fiction, nonfiction, poetry-and some art and photography too! In ancient Japanese, toho means sword. That sword cuts to the essential. As such, we will publish essential pieces (i.e., short, 500 words max). While we focus on Philadelphia, writers of all stages and geographies are invited to apply.
