Preventing Failure in the Primary Grades

Preventing Failure in the Primary Grades
The tasks that are outlined in the reading and math sections are designed for children who have not mastered the basic skills whatever their age or grade level. Segments were used initially with tenth-grade disadvantaged children. Others were developed expressly for primary children. Not every part of the program will be right for a particular child. If a child has serious problems in reading, language comprehension, or arithmetic, they should be tested on tasks from the book that appear to be related to their deficiencies. The program presented, by a judicious selection of task sequences and a reinforcement system appropriate to the older child, can be adapted to the needs of a sixteen year old how has gone through school without learning basic skills.
