Darby hat sich einigermaßen auf der Ranch ihres Großvaters Jonah eingelebt; wenn ihr auch das seltsame Verhalten der Cowboys und ihres Großvaters oft rätselhaft bleiben. Die Arbeit mit ihrem Wildpferd Hoku macht sie glücklich und zeigt erste Erfolge, er lässt sich endlich von ihr an der Leine führen. Da taucht eines Nachts ein mysteriöser Hengst auf, der die Pferde der Ranch bedroht. Bei Bedarf an weiteren Serien zur Fortsetzung möglich; der 3. Band ist für August angekündigt.

Sam und ihre Freundin Jen entdecken beim Ausritt eine wunderschöne Palominostute. Sofort ist Jen davon überzeugt, dass es sich um das ehemalige Zuchtpferd ihres Vaters handelt. Jen sieht im Einfangen der Zuchtstute die einzige Möglichkeit, den von ihrem Vater angestrebten Umzug in die Stadt zu verhindern. Doch dann entdecken die Mädchen ein totes Pferd, das aufgrund des vergifteten Flusswassers im Tal gestorben ist. Sam macht sich große Sorgen um die Stute, ihren silbernen Hengst und die anderen Wildpferde. Wenn nicht bald die großen Schneemassen schmelzen, ist der vergiftete Fluss die einzige Trinkmöglichkeit der Pferde. Am Ende können alle Wildpferde gerettet werden und Jen gelingt es, die Zuchtstute einzufangen und ihren Vater vom Umzug abzuhalten. Wie schon die vorherigen Bände ein gut und flüssig geschriebener Titel, an dem alle Pferdefans Freude haben werden. Außerdem erfährt man einiges über das Leben der Wildpferde.. Sam und ihre Freundin Jen entdecken beim Ausritt eine Stute. Jen ist davon überzeugt, dass es die ehemalige Zuchtstute ihres Vaters ist und möchte diese einfangen. Doch dann finden die beiden ein totes Pferd im Tal und sie müssen die Wildpferde und die Stute vor vergiftetem Wasser retten. Ab 12.
