Gorillas in Our Midst

release date: Apr 14, 2015
Gorillas in Our Midst
Gorillas can be hard to spot, because they are masters of disguise and really good at hiding. Gorillas often have jobs where they get to wear masks—that’s why so many gorillas are surgeons, astronauts, scuba divers, and ninjas. There are adult gorillas and kid gorillas. There are even gorillas that go to school with you. You may think you’ve seen a gorilla swinging by before, but it’s much more likely that he was an orangutan—orangutans are terrible at hiding. You will know when there are lots of gorillas living in your midst because the grocery stores will be entirely out of bananas. In fact, you should always carry a banana with you, because you never know when there might be a gorilla around. Gorillas in Our Midst is all silliness and fun, and is destined to become a new favorite. Comic artist Richard Fairgray’s illustrations are filled with wonderful details for kids to discover with each read. Kids will love spotting the gorillas on each page and are sure to laugh out loud at the gorillas’ many disguises. And, of course, a story like this can’t end without a surprising twist! Sky Pony Press, with our Good Books, Racehorse and Arcade imprints, is proud to publish a broad range of books for young readers—picture books for small children, chapter books, books for middle grade readers, and novels for young adults. Our list includes bestsellers for children who love to play Minecraft; stories told with LEGO bricks; books that teach lessons about tolerance, patience, and the environment, and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.

Erik the Viking

release date: Aug 01, 2024
Erik the Viking
(Applause Books). This is a story of a Viking warrior who thought there must be more to life than rape and pillage. Erick''s doubts about his own lifestyle begin when he inadvertently falls in love with a rather pretty girl he has just killed. Not that he meant to kill her, you understand, but this being the legendary Age of Ragnarok killing people is rather in fashion, and mishaps are bound to occur. According to the Old Norse legend, this is the age when Fenrir the Wolf has swallowed the Sun, and the Great Winter has settled over the World. It is an Axe Age, a Sword Age, when brother will turn against brother, and men will fight each other until the World is finally destroyed...unless...unless someone can awaken the gods and bring the Sun back to shine upon the Earth once again. Comedy, spectacular adventure and pure fantasy combine to tell this story of a man''s attempt to bring peace to a war-torn world.

Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy Book

release date: Feb 01, 2006
Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy Book
Everyone is familiar with the famous photograph of the small girl surrounded by fairies, which caused such a sensation when it was first published in The Regular magazine in 1907. That little girl was Angelica Cottington. On the death of her father, Lady Cottington lived as a recluse on the family estate until she died in 1991. Three years after her death, a series of unfortunate, and fortunate, accidents brought about the discovery of the very book in which she preserved her pressed fairies. Published in facsimile, the book became one of the most truly intriguing, faithful and epoch-making books of all time. It was an overnight success. Meanwhile, a very sad event occurred. Brian Froud, without permission, surreptitiously removed the original book and a reel of documentary film which purported to show the Lady Cottington in her garden, with the dog, demonstrating how to squash fairies. Froud immediately spotted the fakery: the dog was manipulated by strings! Preparing to return the film he noticed that the book''s pages had begun to develop in the daylight and ooze with mould. Incredibly, with the passage of time each page had begun to throw up impressions of so many more unceremoniously flattened fairies, attacked by Lady C in old age - actually the truth being that the old dear had mostly missed and thus the pages reveal bits of fairy and the odd old one. Froud, disgusted, guilty, and not a little frightened, posted the book back immediately. The Cottington archivist opened the parcel and rushed, breathlessly, to the publisher once more. This extraordinary 10 3/4th anniversary publication is the result. DVD to include previously unreleased material from the Cottington Archive: a Pressed Fairy art gallery, interviews with Brian, Terry and Ari Berk and 5 minute filmed interview with Lady Cottington. DVD to be produced by Imaginosis. Nearly 3 million sales worldwide A new look for an old favourite, original edtn ISBN 1-85793-336-2 Contains new DVD with previously unreleased material (and pressed fairy) Companion to forthcoming Lady Cottington''s Letters (October 2005)

Douglas Adams's Starship Titanic

Douglas Adams's Starship Titanic
From the minds of Douglas Adams (The Hitchhiker''s Guide to the Galaxy) and Terry Jones (Monty Python) comes Starship Titanic, the hilarious novelization of the third-best adventure game of 1999. Welcome on board the Starship Titanic. The Ship that Cannot Possibly Go Wrong. At the centre of the galaxy, a vast, unknown civilization is preparing for an event of epic proportions: the launch of the greatest, most gorgeous, most technologically advanced spaceship ever built – the Starship Titanic. An Earthling would see the ship as something really, really big, but rather less provincial onlookers would recognize it as the design of Leovinus, the galaxy’s most renowned architect. Before the launch Leovinus is having one last little look round and begins to find that things just aren’t right: poor workmanship, cybersystems out of control, robots walking into doors. How could this have happened? The following morning, while the galaxy’s media looks on, the fabulous ship eases away from the construction dock, picks up speed, sways a little, wobbles a bit, veers wildly and, just before it can do untold damage to everything around it, appears to undergo SMEF (Spontaneous Massive Existence Failure). In just ten seconds, the whole stupendous enterprise is over. And our story has just begun . . .

It also powerfully recounts the struggle for the soul of a country town still battling to shake off its criminal past.

Fairy Tales and Fantastic Stories
How slow is an ogre? How do you get rid of a dragon (if it’s on your roof)? Would you go off with a fly-by-night? And who was the funniest dog in the world? These are a few of the important questions that are answered in this book. Terry Jones’s fairy tales will take you to strange lands and fabulous kingdoms where you’ll find mystery and magic, sadness and silliness, and more adventures than you’ll know what to do with. In this special edition of the award-winning stories, master storyteller Terry Jones blends fantasy, morality and humour to produce an irresistible collection of tales that children will want to read again and again. The Pythons' Autobiography

release date: Jan 01, 2014
The Pythons' Autobiography
Over 40 years ago, a group of five Englishmen - and one wayward American - rewrote the rules of comedy. MONTY PYTHON''S FLYING CIRCUS, an unheralded, previously unseen half-hour show of sketches, hilarities, inanities and animations, first appeared on the BBC late one night in 1969. Its impact has been felt on the world ever since. From its humble beginnings, it blossomed into the most influential movement in modern comedy. THE PYTHONS'' AUTOBIOGRAPHY BY THE PYTHONS is a unique insight into arguably the most important comic team of the modern age, lavishly illustrated throughout, with photographs culled from the team''s own personal collections. This is the definitive word, in their own words, on all things Pythonesque.
