The Palace Papers
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The “addictively readable” (The Washington Post) inside story of the British royal family’s battle to overcome the dramas of the Diana years—only to confront new, twenty-first-century crises “Frothy and forthright, a kind of Keeping Up with the Windsors with sprinkles of Keats.”—The New York Times (Notable Book of the Year) ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: The Washington Post, Elle, Town & Country “Never again” became Queen Elizabeth II’s mantra shortly after Princess Diana’s tragic death. More specifu00adically, there could never be “another Diana”—a memu00adber of the family whose global popularity upstaged, outshone, and posed an existential threat to the Britu00adish monarchy. Picking up where Tina Brown’s masterful The Diana Chronicles left off, The Palace Papers reveals how the royal family reinvented itself after the trauu00admatic years when Diana’s blazing celebrity ripped through the House of Windsor like a comet. Brown takes readers on a tour de force journey through the scandals, love affairs, power plays, and betrayals that have buffeted the monarchy over the last twenty-five years. We see the Queen’s stoic reu00adsolve after the passing of Princess Margaret, the Queen Mother, and Prince Philip, her partner for seven decades, and how she triumphs in her Jubilee years even as family troubles rage around her. Brown explores Prince Charles’s determination to make Camilla Parker Bowles his wife, the tension between William and Harry on “different paths,” the ascendu00adance of Kate Middleton, the downfall of Prince Anu00addrew, and Harry and Meghan’s stunning decision to step back as senior royals. Despite the fragile monaru00adchy’s best efforts, “never again” seems fast approaching. Tina Brown has been observing and chronicling the British monarchy for three decades, and her sweeping account is full of powerful revelations, newly reported details, and searing insight gleaned from remarkable access to royal insiders. Stylish, witty, and erudite, The Palace Papers will irrevocau00adbly change how the world perceives and underu00adstands the royal family.

A History of Women's Lives in Eastbourne

release date: Sep 30, 2019
A History of Women's Lives in Eastbourne
A historian examines the developments in women’s lives over a period from 1850 to 1950 in the famous southeastern England seaside town. The southeast coastal town of Eastbourne is probably best known today as a popular holiday resort frequented by the retired generation. It has long, golden beaches and a gentile pace of life and, from that point of view, little has really changed from the mid-1850s to today. However, for the women of the town and their advancements and achievements, a significant period was between 1850 and 1950, when changes in medicine, education, family life, and the right to vote played an important part in their lives. The First and Second World Wars also brought about their own changes and challenges. A History of Women’s Lives in Eastbourne delves deep into these historical subjects and more.

Life is a challenge. We are pressured each day by the negative forces that creeps into our space. Therefore with the problems we face, the daily life decisions that we make, worries seem to be apart of our regular meal. Depression is its name, and it comes in all shapes and sizes. Its alluring, its captivating, it weakens us, thus allowing a high level of submissiveness. Human beings are prone to mistakes, we are creatures of habits, hence not to say we ought not to take responsibility for our actions. However second chances must not be a segregated reaction to choose one or the other to apply this very act. A deep depressed human being who lacks confidence, who has little or no self esteem will believe that they are worth nothing to no one. And for me this is not so. We all deserve the opportunity to be rescued, to be helped, to feel motivated. That is why Jesus died on the cross to heal those broken hearts, to rescue the perishing, it is a formidable hope that cannot be broken. Books are incredible at encouraging and structuring in a systematic way from a - b in associating your problems with immediate solutions. Depression as sad as it sounds is a way of life for most. Why? we feel as if we can''t cope. We have lost all reasoning, we can''t see the light at the end of the tunnel. Our Failures rule us, we are self imprisoned by the darkness it produced, we live daily by dragging our feet, feeling sorry for ourselves. Do you want to be happy? Yes its a simple question, but so often we cannot answer yes. But do you want to be happy? That''s the first question you need to ask yourself. And if its Yes, then we are off to a start. My point is you need to want to get out of your depressive state. To be able to be rescued you need to make the first move. In this book: I try to lay out in details all the reason why depression will only kill you, why you must empower yourself daily. Be a positive repetitive enforcer only speak positive things in and around you. Start by trying to lift your spirit. Shoot the Messenger
"Report on the Nukualofa reconstruction project that was authorised by the Prime Minister of Tonga in April 2011. The report was not well received by his office and has never been released. What was so dangerous about this report that the Prime Minister''s Office felt compelled to hide its content from public knowledge? Teena Brown Pulu, the report''s author, sets the research that underpinned it in the political context of Tonga''s struggling democratic reform, a small island developing state in global financial crisis, and the current government which operates by responding to varied interests and pressure groups, rather than as a coalition with a comprehensive social and economic vision. She offers a critique of factors producing a weak democratic state subject to the power of aid donor countries and regional policy in the South Pacific Islands, and entangled in how to systematically modify governance and society"--Back cover.

The Diana Chronicles
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Years after her death, Princess Diana remains a mystery. This "insanely readable and improbably profound" biography (Chicago Tribune) reveals the truth as only famed journalist Tina Brown could tell it. "The best book on Diana." —The New Yorker Was she “the people’s princess,” who electrified the world with her beauty and humanitarian missions? Or was she manipulative and media-savvy and nearly brought down the monarchy? Tina Brown, former Editor-in-Chief of Tatler, England’s glossiest gossip magazine; Vanity Fair; and The New Yorker gives us the answers. Tina knew Diana personally and has far-reaching insight into the royals and the Queen herself. In The Diana Chronicles, you will meet a formidable female cast and understand as never before the society that shaped them: Diana''s sexually charged mother, her scheming grandmother, the stepmother she hated but finally came to terms with, and bad-girl Fergie, her sister-in-law, who concealed wounds of her own. Most formidable of them all was her mother-in-law, the Queen, whose admiration Diana sought till the day she died. Add Camilla Parker-Bowles, the ultimate "other woman" into this combustible mix, and it''s no wonder that Diana broke out of her royal cage into celebrity culture, where she found her own power and used it to devastating effect.

Snip! Snip!
These are poems that teeter on the edge of propriety, which are by turns playful, even cocky, and laden with self-doubt. Whether extolling the virtues of ego salad or locating the Louvre "in Paris, / or wherever the Louvre may be now," Celona brings a feline wittiness to the act of writing, which she alludes to with a fervency and frequency that border on neurosis."This poem is only for girls," Celona states with infuriating certainty, daring the reader to challenge her in prose poems that stake out a world where men capriciously cross out their wives and "poetry, too, is bad for you." These sometimes scatological, often buoyant poems juxtapose squalid fact with incandescent images, certainties around which bafflement and pain become organized, against which the distances between people, between penguins, between words and feelings, between beginning with intention and becoming lost, can be measured.
