A collection of the monthly climatological reports of the states, originally issued separately for each state or section. Similar data was combined in the Monthly weather review for July 1909 to Dec. 1913, also pub. separately during that time for each of the 12 districts. Previous to July 1909 monthly reports were issued for each state or section.

Beginning with 1876, the volumes have included also decisions of United States courts, decisions of Secretary of Interior, opinions of Attorney-General, and important decisions of state courts in relation to patents, trade-marks, etc. 1869-94, not in Congressional set." Vols. for 1950-19 contained treaties and international agreements issued by the Secretary of State as United States treaties and other international agreements.

Official records produced by the armies of the United States and the Confederacy, and the executive branches of their respective governments, concerning the military operations of the Civil War, and prisoners of war or prisoners of state. Also annual reports of military departments, calls for troops, correspondence between national and state governments, correspondence between Union and Confederate officials. The final volume includes a synopsis, general index, special index for various military divisions, and background information on how these documents were collected and published. Accompanied by an atlas.
