Comprising sixteen volumes bound in green cloth, this edition has been brought together and edited by Chris Mawson with the assistance of Francesca Bion. Like Karnak in Egypt, or the Athenian Parthenon, it is one of the four great pinnacles of architecture, but unlike them this is no ruin, nor does it belong to a past world of constructive ideas although it precedes by seven hundred years the forth culmination of the building arts in Chartres, Amiens, or Bourges, and thus must ever stand as the supreme monument of the Christian cycle. Far from being a ruin, the church is one of the best preserved of so ancient monuments, and in regard to its treatment by the Turks we can only be grateful that S. "One is Me" is an almost mythical relationship between people and places of the past and present as seen through the eyes of a cynic, pessimist, child, traveler, caretaker, teacher, minister and neighbor as they speak of themselves throughout the entire book. What is remarkable is that throughout the book, the characters interrelate their stories with fresh dialog, as if they are talking to each other, about each other, with surprises around many corners. The chaotic flow of events, from the terrors of growing up, senility to sex scandals, death, crackpot clergy, afternoon delight, menopause and deceit, all interspersed with poetic snippets from moments in the characters lives. The uniqueness of the writing leads you to believe that all the characters may be individual characters alone by themselves or may be one character alone in a constant state of change. While mixed with sympathetic and idiosyncratic traits, the characters offer a ''shoot from the hip'' frankness about life with many surprises. W. R.
