Sustain Your Game

release date: Apr 12, 2022
Sustain Your Game
The Sports Librarian’s Best of 2022 – Sports Booksu200b Sustain Your Game is built upon a simple premise: each of us will always be under construction, a work in progress, and constantly evolving. The goal is to be moving toward our highest potential, toward making a meaningful contribution, and toward becoming the best version of ourselves. Based on his years as a successful basketball performance coach—having worked with and alongside superstars like Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, and Kobe Bryant—and a keynote speaker to major companies like Pepsi and Amex, Alan Stein Jr. brings you the keys to lasting, unimaginable success. The secret? Sustain Your Game teaches a timeline of short term to medium term to long term because we are always battling all three: stress in the now, stagnation in the present, and burnout in the long term. Part I—PERFORM is about managing stress in the day-to-day (short term) Part II—PIVOT is about avoiding stagnation in your current situation (medium term) Part III—PREVAIL is about beating burnout and making a lasting impact (long term) This book is for high performers who want to learn practical strategies and action steps on how to sustain their game across all three timelines. It assembles invaluable advice and lessons from successful athletes, entrepreneurs, social scientists, journalists, CEOs, motivational speakers, business coaches, and consultants, as well as Alan’s own personal stories.

Finding a Better Way

release date: Dec 12, 2017
Finding a Better Way
Follow Stephen, Nick, Jodi, and Ray through a provocative and often humorous look at their daily existence. But buried in their stories is an insightful perspective on the dysfunction of our own world; an innate pathology that threatens our continued survival. Looking around, it seems like something is very wrong with the state of the world. Despite our immense potential, we are not living up to the challenges that our world faces on a daily basis. Our technological advances could bring all of us a significantly improved quality of life, but instead our world is increasingly under the threat of destabilization by any number of events of our own creation This book is a humorous and mindful way of calling attention to the issues underlying our dysfunction and it suggests some changes that we can each make in order to overcome our challenges. I am Alan Stein, a physician, a scientist, and a developer of advanced healthcare technologies. But those jobs become less and less meaningful in an increasingly chaotic world. Today''s healthcare does not address our overall well-being, so even as we develop increasingly sophisticated medical technologies, they are being delivered to an increasingly unhealthy society. We need to take a step back and examine the underlying causes of our societal dysfunction. Ironically, the biggest danger that we face is simply that we''re all too preoccupied to even consider finding a better way for us to live. Our challenge is a global one. Things like carbon emissions, wealth inequality, regulatory capture, and the decay of critical thinking skills aren''t problems that start or stop at a nation''s borders. We live in a globally connected society, so even though you may not feel pain from these issues today, they still affect you though even if you have not yet identified their impact. Current efforts to address these problems have been limited to narrow tactical maneuvers necessitated by our socio-political systems. But this isn''t good enough. We must do better by addressing the underlying disease that is causing our societal decline instead of treating the innumerable symptoms. Many conceptual issues are captured in these entertaining short stories. This anthology will challenge you to think differently about the world in which we live.
