Grace is often defined as the unmerited favor of God, and as His children, we are extended His grace on a daily basis. We truly don''t deserve it; yet, day after day, He bestows it upon us -giving us a new opportunity each day to "get it right." No matter what we did yesterday, because of the grace of God, we get a "do-over" and we get to try again. As a child psychologist and Christian parent, I know full well how powerful parenting with grace can be. That same feeling we get when God gives us grace and we know that we totally screwed up the day before, is the feeling our children get when we give them grace and start the new day with a clean slate -no matter what they did the day before. It doesn''t mean that we don''t discipline or that we don''t address any misbehavior or disrespect; it just means that we aren''t going to let that misbehavior or disrespect destroy or negatively impact our relationship. We deal with the dirt, but we deal with it in love. We mete out the consequences, or we allow the natural consequences of our child''s behavior to manifest; but we NEVER forget that we were once children ourselves trying to figure this thing out. We don''t forget that we ourselves are children of the Most High God and that we mess up BIG TIME, yet He gives us a fresh start every day. I truly believe that when we parent with grace, with mercy, and with unconditional love; our children can feel it deep in their spirit and soul and often times not only do they choose to behave better, but our relationship as parents and children is preserved. And at the end of the day, the relationship is all that matters. So, the purpose of this devotional is to encourage you as a Christian parent and to give you some things to think about and pray about as you strive to parent your children with grace -with unmerited favor. No, they often don''t deserve it, but give it anyway. Because we have to remember always, that we don''t deserve God''s grace either; and most of us are doing FAR WORSE things than our kiddos... I pray that this devotional adds value to you and to your family and that it encourages you to protect your relationship with your children by being a parent who is full of love, full of mercy, and most especially FULL OF GRACE...
