Sixth Grade Superstar

release date: Nov 12, 2023
Sixth Grade Superstar
Sixth Grader Ty Bogart has a role in the school musical! It''s opening up a whole new world to him: He''s making new friends, talking to way older women (some of them as old as EIGHTH GRADE), and going to big kid parties (which go until 9 PM, if you can believe it). Ty is going to act. He''s going to dance. He''s going to sing. He''s going to kiss a girl right on the forehead in Act 2. There''s just one problem: Whenever Ty has to perform in front of people, he loses his voice. Can he find it before opening night? SIXTH GRADE SUPERSTAR is a hilarious coming of age story written and illustrated by Brian Lynch, the guy who wrote the MINIONS movie and co-wrote THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS. He was in plays in middle school, where he kissed many, many foreheads, so he definitely knows what he''s talking about. SIXTH GRADE SUPERSTAR takes place in the dramatic mid-ground between Judy Blume and John Hughes. This uplifting story is a moving read for kids of all ages - and parents who used to be sixth graders. This visually dynamic illustrated novel features magnetic, positive characters who come to life in over 200 eye-popping images by the author. Lynch''s other writing includes the movies PUSS IN BOOTS, HOP, and BIG HELIUM DOG. His print work includes Scholastic''s popular TOY ACADEMY series and the BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER comic book spinoffs ANGEL: AFTER THE FALL and SPIKE: ASYLUM. PRAISE FOR SIXTH GRADE SUPERSTAR: "There''s enough of my former 11 year old self in Ty Bogart''s adventures and friends to delight, engage, amuse and horrify me-all at frigging once! Brian Lynch-a savagely funny artist-pulls off no easy trick with Sixth Grade Superstar." - Berkeley Breathed, creator of Bloom County, Outland, and Flawed Dogs: The Novel: The Shocking Raid on Westminster "The thing that makes Brian Lynch such a great writer for kids is that he''s basically a big kid himself. He knows what makes kids laugh (and think) because he has the maturity of a 12 year old, in all the best ways. SIXTH GRADE SUPERSTAR will resonate with ungainly tweens and the ungainly adults who love them." - Michael Ian Black, author of A Better Man: A (Mostly Serious) Letter to My Son and actor, The State "I want to give the sixth grade Brian a big hug and the adult Brian a big high five! I laughed, I cried, I tried to style my hair with a curling iron. Sixth Grade Superstar is a fantastic read for all ages!" - Scott Mosier, director of Dr. Seuss'' The Grinch "Hilarious. The book is filled with laughter, heart, and some fine cartooning. A coming of age comedy made for every late bloomer goofball." - Jordan Blum, co-creator of Minor Threats and Marvel''s M.O.D.O.K.

Poems Songs and Sagas

release date: Jun 13, 2014
Poems Songs and Sagas
My book is a compilation as described by the title and covers three genres of poetry, songs and historical saga rhymes. The history pieces are based on two figures one from the 19th century and another from the 11th century. Who although have left a historical mark of significance, are not widely published or read. The first being Edward Louis Nolan of the Crimean War and Charge of the Light Brigade, and Bohemond Prince of Antioch, Norman warlord of southern Italy son of Robert Guiscard, leading light in the first crusade which conquered the holy land and captured Jerusalem in 1099. The poems and songs reflect my growing up in fairly radical times and my personal opinions on life, politics, environmental issues through the looking glass of the rock n roll generation. So providing the reader with a diverse choice of writing that gives a sense of historical adventure, to new wave thought on our cynical times. Most of this compilation was written in the last four years, but does include pieces from 1999 onwards when i first started serious writing.

The Road from Gloster Hill

release date: Nov 01, 2011
The Road from Gloster Hill
It''s known today as Gloster Hill, but during the Korean War it was simply Hill 235. Overlooking the Imjin River it was destined to become as emotive a name in British military history as El Alamein and Rorkes Drift where handfuls of British soldiers wrote their names in history. The battle of the Imjin River and the story of the gallant ''Glorious Glosters'' has been well documented and is part of this story; but only part. The young National Serviceman who arrived on the hill that day had already had a full and adventurous life after running away from home to go to sea, before he even got to Korea. It''s what happened to him after the famous battle that this story is really about. It''s the true one of a man who, with only a few hundred pounds modernised and created a whole new industry, before going on to do the same with another one. He built two huge companies, employing thousands of people in the UK and abroad, both of them quoted on the Stock Exchange. For John Bairstow the road from Gloster Hill was as exciting as the one that had led him to it.

The Murals of the Mezquitan Cemetery Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico

release date: Sep 01, 2011
The Murals of the Mezquitan Cemetery Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico
In 2001 the exterior walls of Guadalajara''s Mezquitan Cemetery where enhanced with a large mural. In an agreement between the University of Guadalajara (U d G) and the City of Guadalajara some 100 visual arts students were invited to paint 2500 square meters of space to create a huge mural. This book recreates that mural which unfortunately has fallen on bad times. The painting is inspired, in part, by a folk tale about a race to the cemetery by two families for the privilege of having a family member buried there and claiming the prize of the first burial plot free of charge. The race was between a rich and a poor family. The poor family having only the sweat of their brow lost as the rich family had access to a carriage. But this is only the starting point as the mural was truly a community project involving financial support from the government, numerous student painters and many suggestions from the community concerning thematic input, from furtive loves to a car accident. I hope the recreation of these images encourages the continued practice of the mural art form and encourages the viewer and reader to search out original murals for viewing.
