Keats's Shakespeare - A Descriptive Study Based on New Material
This early work by Caroline F. Spurgeon was originally published in 1928 and we are now republishing it with a brand new introductory biography. ''Keats''s Shakespeare - A Descriptive Study Based On New Material'' analyses the work that the great romantic poet produced on ''the Bard''. Caroline Spurgeon was born on 24 October 1869, in India. She was educated at Cheltenham Ladies College, England and at King''s College, London and also University College London. Spurgeon went on to become an esteemed literary critic, and was actually the first female professor of English literature. From 1900 onwards she lectured on the subject and was only the second female professor in England at the time. Through her various professional activities inside her own department, she participated in the academic literary-critical renaissance of the twenties and early thirties. Varieties of Personal Aging

release date: Jan 01, 1997
Varieties of Personal Aging
This study examines the attitudes and subjective perceptions of the aging process as experienced by male (6) and female (9) subjects in retirement, over the age sixty-five. Data drawn from interviews conducted in the subject''s home and based on a questionnaire of twenty-three open-ended questions explores their encounters with role changes, status loss, work, discrimination, family contacts, and gender differences in their aging. Feminist, Labelling, Activity, Disengagement, and Personality Theories are reviewed. The principal findings of this research indicate that there is a wide variety of styles of personal aging which I call liberated, volunteers, wanderers, family first, and retreaters. In general, all my sample were satisfied with their own aging, although many had experienced various forms of discrimination. Men and women seem to age in a similar way although they believe that they age differently. Most of my sample travelled extensively regardless of their income. Finally, roles became far more fluid as aging progressed relating to common interests and needs rather than to social obligations and roles.

Inner Sense

release date: Apr 03, 2025
Inner Sense
Interoception is one of our most important - and most mysterious - senses. It''s how our bodies tell our brains what we''re feeling - when we''re hungry, when we''re cold, how we''re feeling in ourselves and how to respond to stress or panic. Little understood until now, unlocking its mechanics could transform mental health and wellbeing science. Caroline Williams is an expert in mind-body science. In Inner Sense, she uncovers a field that''s poised to revolutionise health, and explores groundbreaking new techniques that can improve our mental and physical wellbeing. She meets brain scientists mapping the nervous system, neurodivergent researchers working to hone their interoception skills and health practitioners investigating how this inner sense can aid mindfulness, treat eating disorders and help find a sense of calm. Combining science, medicine, mindfulness and physical therapy, Inner Sense is the first book to bring this exciting new field of medicine to a general readership.

Strategic Personality and the Effectiveness of Nuclear Deterrence

release date: Jan 01, 2000
Strategic Personality and the Effectiveness of Nuclear Deterrence
Changes in the international system since the end of the Cold War has necessitated the reevaluation of the theoretical assumptions that have underlay nuclear deterrence strategies for the past half-century. In light of the emergence of new nuclear-armed states and the breakdown of the bipolar balance-of-power, the old one-size-fits-all deterrence approaches may not reflect the realities of the new security environment. This study suggests how Strategic Personality Typing can provide useful insights into how to approach the problem of forging more effective and supple deterrence strategies in the future. It includes a series of historical case studies to illustrate the kinds of insights the Strategic Personality methodology can provide.

Job Satisfiers and Dissatisfiers of Airport Passenger Baggage Screeners

release date: Jan 01, 1995
Job Satisfiers and Dissatisfiers of Airport Passenger Baggage Screeners
"The purpose of this research was to assess factors that impact job satisfaction, job tenure, and employee dissatisfaction among airport passenger baggage screeners. This effort is in direct response to a severe employee turnover problem within the industry. The primary need for this effort is to guide the development and implementation of intervention programs to improve employee tenure. Consequently, this reduces employee turnover, improves system effectiveness by increasing the overall experience base of the workforce, and enhances employee job satisfaction. Initiatives to identify factors contributing to job satisfaction and career retention were conducted in 1994. A series of subject matter expert (SME) interviews and workshops employing modified Delphi small-group techniques generated an extensive data base that described factors related to career retention. These data were collected from a sampling of diverse ethnic and cultural groups from two security firms at three airports that were geographically dispersed. The data set included an evaluation of career retention factors using consensus techniques. This report substantially expends those findings."--P. iii.
