Tarzan The Terrible
Tarzan the Terrible by Edgar Rice Burroughs immerses readers into a breathtaking world where danger lurks just beneath the foliage and the call of adventure echoes across vast wilds. This gripping tale reintroduces us to the legendary character of Tarzan, a figure synonymous with heroism and survival, as he embarks on a perilous journey into the depths of a lost world. Amidst the backdrop of the feral jungle, readers are treated to a rich tapestry of narrative that combines thrilling escapades with profound themes of loyalty, bravery, and the defining nature of humanity. The story kicks off with Tarzan facing a new challenge that tests not only his physical strength but also his ability to navigate complex moral dilemmas. When danger strikes in the form of a ferocious enemy, Tarzan must summon all his skills and instincts to protect those he loves as well as preserve the delicate balance of the untamed jungles he calls home. Burroughs captures the essence of adventure fiction, exploring the depths of danger alongside the intricacies of his protagonist''s thoughts and emotions. As Tarzan ventures deeper into unexplored territories, he encounters a prehistoric civilization—a group of beings thought lost to time. The depiction of these ancient creatures and their intricate societal structures adds an exciting twist to the narrative, propelling the story into uncharted territory. Throughout his journey, Burroughs excels in portraying the vivid world of the jungle, enveloping readers in descriptions that are both lyrical and striking. From the lush greenery to the cacophony of sounds, one feels the pulse of the wilderness, heightening the sense of urgency and immersion. Burroughs brings to life not just the action of Tarzan’s journeys but also his relationships with friends and foes alike. As the stakes raise, themes of loyalty and friendship become even more resonant. Readers will be captivated by the unwavering bonds Tarzan forms with those who join him. Each character adds layers of complexity to the story, demonstrating how alliances can shift in the face of adversity. In this fierce struggle for survival, Tarzan''s courage and sacrifice shine through, reinforcing the ideals of heroism in unexpected ways. Burroughs does well to remind us that true nobility often lies in the willingness to protect the vulnerable and stand against tyranny. Throughout *Tarzan the Terrible*, readers are continuously engaged and challenged to think about the moral conflicts that arise when survival and righteousness collide. Burroughs''s compelling prose raises important questions about the nature of civilization and the interplay of humankind with the primal world. The psychological depth embedded in Tarzan’s character allows readers to reflect not just on adventure but also on what it means to be honorable in an often unforgiving world. Each encounter with wild creatures and ancient tribes reveals the protagonist''s struggles and triumphs, lending an air of authenticity to his journey. With exhilarating action sequences, heart-pounding adventures, and complex interactions, *Tarzan the Terrible* is a thrilling installment that embodies the spirit of adventure fiction. Burroughs skillfully balances excitement with deeper reflections on loyalty, sacrifice, and the essence of courage—telling a story that continues to resonate with readers of all ages. This iconic tale reaffirms the reasons why Tarzan remains one of literature''s most enduring figures, proving once again that the heart of a true hero beats strongest in the face of despair. Prepare to be captivated as you join Tarzan on his quest to navigate the treacherous territories of love, conflict, and survival in an enthralling narrative that is nothing short of magnificent.

At the Earth’s Core
At the Earth’s Core, published in 1914, is the first of a series of science fiction novels written by Edgar Rice Burroughs set inside a hollow earth with a central “sun,” a land called Pellucidar. However unlikely this scenario, it allowed Burroughs free play to create heroic adventures in yet another alien environment in addition to his fantastic version of Mars in his Martian series. The story’s hero, David Innes, is recruited by an old man, Perry, to help fund his invention, a “mechanical subterranean prospector,” and then to test it out. Unfortunately once the powerful burrowing machine is set going, it cannot be steered, and the pair find themselves burrowing deeper and deeper into the Earth’s crust. To their astonishment, rather than dying from suffocation or increasing heat, they emerge inside a hollow shell inside the Earth. This world is populated by prehistoric creatures as well as primitive humans, intelligent gorillas, and supremely intelligent pterosaurs, the masters of this land. David and Perry are captured by these creatures and many adventures ensue.

The Gods of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs(Annotated Edition)
After John Carter''s arrival, a boat of Green Martians arrive on the River Iss and are ambushed by the previously unknown Plant Men. The lone survivor is his friend Tars Tarkas, the Jeddak of Thark, who has taken the pilgrimage to the Valley Dor to find Carter. Carter and Tars Tarkas discover that the Therns, rulers of Valley Dor, a white-skinned race of self-proclaimed gods, have for eons deceived the Barsoomians of the outer world by disseminating the myth that the pilgrimage to the Valley Dor is a journey to paradise. Most arrivals are killed by the beasts of Valley, the survivors enslaved by Therns. Carter and Tars Tarkas rescue Thuvia, a slave girl, and attempt to escape, capitalizing on the confusion caused by an attack by the Black Pirates of Barsoom upon the Therns. They are separated during the attack: Tars Tarkas and Thuvia hijack a Black Pirate flier, while Carter fights his way aboard another, killing all but one of the Pirates, and rescuing a captive Thern princess. Carter, talking with the captured Pirate Xodar, discovers that the Black Pirates, called the "First Born", also think of themselves as gods, and prey upon the Therns as the Therns prey upon others. He also discovers that the captive Thern is Phaidor, daughter of the "Holy Hekkador" (high priest) of the Therns. When their flier is recaptured by the First Born, they are taken to their land, built around the underground sea of Omean, below the lost sea of Korus and the Valley Dor. Both are located at the South Pole of Barsoom.

A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs Annotated
A Princess of Mars is an Edgar Rice Burroughs science fiction novel, the first of his famous Barsoom series. It is also Burroughs'' first novel, predating his Tarzan stories. He wrote it between July and September 28, 1911, going through four working titles; initially, he was going to call it My First Adventure on Mars, then The Green Martians, Dejah Thoris, Martian Princess, and finally Under the Moons of Mars. The finished story was first published under the last of these titles in All-Story as a six-part serial in the issues for February-July 1912. For the serial publication, the author''s name was given as "Norman Bean"; Burroughs had chosen the pseudonym of "Normal Bean" as a type of pun stressing that he was in his right mind, being concerned he might suffer ridicule for writing such a fantastic story. The effect was spoiled when a typesetter changed "Normal" to "Norman" on the assumption that the former was a typographical error. The story was later published as a complete novel under the present title by A. C. McClurg in October 1917. Full of swordplay and daring feats, the story is considered a classic example of 20th century pulp fiction. So don''t wait! Scroll up and buy now.

Edgar Rice Burroughs' Jungle Tales of Tarzan Annotated

Edgar Rice Burroughs' Jungle Tales of Tarzan Annotated
Jungle Tales of Tarzan is a collection of twelve loosely connected short stories by American writer Edgar Rice Burroughs, comprising the sixth book in order of publication in his series of twenty-four books about the title character Tarzan. Chronologically the events recounted in it occur within Chapter 11 of the first Tarzan novel, Tarzan of the Apes, between Tarzan''s avenging of his ape foster mother''s death and his becoming leader of his ape tribe. The stories ran monthly in Blue Book magazine, September 1916 through August 1917 before book publication in 1919. The book is a collection of twelve loosely connected short stories of Tarzan''s late teenage years, set within a year or two before Tarzan first sees white people including Jane Porter. According to Tarzan Alive, Philip José Farmer''s study of the ape man''s life and career, the incidents of this book occurred from February, 1907-August, 1908 (aside from the eclipse incident in the final tale, there apparently having been no such eclipse visible from equatorial Africa during this period).Cover of Blue Book issue featuring "Tarzan''s First Love"."Tarzan''s First Love". Tarzan''s courtship of the female ape Teeka ends in failure when her preference turns to their mutual friend, the male ape Taug. Tarzan wrestles with his humanness versus his ape-ness. The allusion to Helen of Troy enriches the story, making Tarzan and Taug''s fight over Teeka take on symbolic proportions. Stan Galloway writes: "when Burroughs chooses to name Helen as an objective correlative for Teeka, he expects both literal and emotional connections to occur." Tarzan''s final claim of the story -- "Tarzan is a man. He will go alone."-echoes the plight of Adam in the Garden of Eden."The Capture of Tarzan". Tarzan is taken captive by the warriors of a village of cannibals which has established a village near the territory of the ape tribe. He is saved from them by Tantor, the elephant."The Fight for the Balu". Teeka and Taug have a baby (balu, in the ape language), which Teeka names Gazan and will not allow Tarzan near. She changes her mind after Tarzan saves the baby from a leopard."The God of Tarzan". Tarzan discovers the concept of "God" in the books preserved in the cabin of his dead parents, to which he pays regular visits. He inquires among members of his ape tribe for further elucidation without success, and continues his investigation among the cannibals of the nearby village and the natural phenomena of his world, such as the sun and moon. Eventually he concludes that God is none of these, but the creative force permeating everything. Somehow, though, the dreaded snake Histah falls outside this."Tarzan and the Black Boy". Jealous of Taug and Teeka''s relationship with their baby, Tarzan kidnaps Tibo, a little boy from the neighboring village to be his own "balu". He tries with indifferent success to teach the terrified and homesick child ape ways. Meanwhile, Momaya, Tibo''s mother does everything she can think of to find and recover her son, even visiting the hermit witch-doctor Bukawai, a terrible, diseased exile who keeps two fearsome hyenas as pets. He names a price for recovering Tibo she cannot afford, and she leaves disappointed. Afterwards, however, Tarzan, who is moved by Tibo''s distress and his mother''s love, returns the boy to her."The Witch-Doctor Seeks Vengeance". Bukawai attempts to claim credit for Tibo''s return and extort payment from the boy''s mother, but is rebuffed. He plots vengeance against the native family and Tarzan, but is thwarted by the ape man. In this story Tarzan''s life in the wild is contrasted with scenes from the civilized existence of his cousin in England, living the life he might have had had his parents not been marooned in Africa. The cousin does not shine in the comparison.Cover of Blue Book issue featuring "The End of Bukawai"......
