Ergänzend enthält der vorliegende Band zentrale Teile aus Petersons Überblicksvorlesung zur paulinischen Theologie (1924/25 und 1926/27) sowie weitere kleinere Studien aus dem Zeitraum von 1915 bis 1950. Petersons prägnante Auffassung von Paulus als "Apostel der Ausnahme" bildet den einen, der "altchristliche Kirchenbegriff" den anderen Brennpunkt seiner auf charakteristische Weise, "dialetktischen" Auslegung des ersten Briefs an die Korinther. Dieser Brief gibt ihm die Gelegenheit, vor allem das frühchristliche Selbstverständnis der Kirche (Ekklesia), ihr Wesen und ihre Sakramente, ihre rechtliche Ordnung und ihren apostolischen Charakter in programmatischer Weise zu erhellen. Aber auch zu vielen anderen heute noch oder wieder aktuellen Themen bietet Peterson überraschende und mitunter provozierende Auslegungen: Dazu gehören beispielsweise seine kritischen Anfragen an die neuzeitliche Offenbarungstheologie, aber auch seine Ausführungen zur Äonentheologie und Eschatologie, zur Feier der Eucharistie, zum Verhältnis der Geschlechter in der Kirche, zu den Charismen und zum Wesen der Liebe (Agape).
