In this book the author surveys new techniques in econometrics which may be used to analyse semiparametric models. As well as covering topics such as instrumental variable estimation, nonparametric density and regression function estimation and semiparametric limited dependent variable models, the book provides details of how these methods may be implemented using software.

The performance properties of recycled polymer modified asphalt (PMA) binders containing warm mix asphalt (WMA) additives at high, intermediate, and low temperatures were evaluated. First, each combination of two PMA binders (performance grade (PG) 76-22 from two different sources) and two WMA additives (i.e., Aspha-min® and Sasobit®) were blended to produce warm PMA binders. They were then artificially short-term and long-term aged through the rolling thin film oven and pressure aging vessel procedures. Second, long-term aged warm PMA binders were recycled using two virgin binders (PG 76-22 and PG 70-22), and the recycled binders were artificially aged again. Lastly, Superpave binder tests were performed through the rotational viscometer, the dynamic shear rheometer (DSR), and the bending beam rheometer (BBR). In general, the results of this study suggested that (1) the WMA additives and the aged PMA binders were found to have a significant influence on the performance properties of recycled binders (measured by the DSR and the BBR); (2) the use of PG 70-22 as a virgin binder was effective in offsetting the increase of binder stiffness due to the additives and the aged binders; and (3) the recycled warm PMA binders can result in satisfactory binder performance that meets current Superpave binder requirements.

Summary: Young-Jae Lee (b. 1951 in Korea) has received a number of prizes as head of the internationally famous pottery workshop, the Keramische Werkstatt Margaretenhöhe in Essen. Her work as a potter is rooted in Far Eastern tradition, but also reflects modern Western influences. She developed her characteristic language on the basis of the formal principles of the Bauhaus. Thus her bowls and vessels are noteworthy for their perfection of execution and their memorable, discreetly coloured glazes and painting. Young-Jae Lee''s works develop their meditative effect both as individual items and also together, interacting with other members of a group. In the Sinclair-Haus, additionally, the artist incorporates works from the ALTANA art collection on the theme of nature into her large-scale mises-en-scène. This catalogue uses large-format illustrations to show the resulting interactions, some harmonious, some contrastive and full of tension. In many disciplines of science it is vital to know the effect of a ''treatment'' on a response variable of interest; the effect being known as the ''treatment effect''. Here, the treatment can be a drug, an education program or an economic policy, and the response variable can be an illness,academic achievement or GDP. Once the effect is found, it is possible to intervene to adjust the treatment and attain a desired level of the response variable.A basic way to measure the treatment effect is to compare two groups, one of which received the treatment and the other did not. If the two groups are homogenous in all aspects other than their treatment status, then the difference between their response outcomes is the desired treatment effect. Butif they differ in some aspects in addition to the treatment status, the difference in the response outcomes may be due to the combined influence of more than one factor. In non-experimental data where the treatment is not randomly assigned but self-selected, the subjects tend to differ in observedor unobserved characteristics. It is therefore imperative that the comparison be carried out with subjects similar in their characteristics. This book explains how this problem can be overcome so the attributable effect of the treatment can be found.This book brings to the fore recent advances in econometrics for treatment effects. This paper examines changes in property-liability insurers risktaking associated with the enactment of state guaranty fund laws. We present evidence that the risk of insurers'' asset portfolios increased following enactments. But the increase in risk is significant only for stock insurers. This evidence of increased asset risk following guarantee-fund adoptions helps explain the increase in insurer insolvencies in recent years.
