Pathfinder: Before the Godsrain
Pathfinder’s beloved iconic heroes make their fiction debut in Godsrain, set to release in November 2024. Ezren, the wizard, who abandoned a posh life as a merchant’s son after discovering his father’s criminal past and devoted his life not to clearing his soiled name but to the study of the arcane. Amiri, the barbarian, whose exile from her tribe of nomadic hunters has left her with only her rage and her companions to provide solace in a dangerous world. Nahoa, the exemplar, who gained a spark of divinity while battling a mighty demon in the sky above his island home, and now travels the world to fulfill his Calling. Samo, the animist, who accompanies Nahoa and uses her connections to the spirits of the world to aid him and anyone in need. Before the Godsrain features over 30 works of flash and short fiction, including the origins of all six iconic heroes, updated and expanded for this publication; more than 20 entries from the popular Iconic Encounters series including Kyra and Merisiel’s wedding and the four-part “Returning Home” short story following Amiri’s return to her homeland after years of exile; and a bonus entry from the “Windsong Testaments” recounting the mythological battle between the gods at the dawn of time which plays a central role in the Godsrain novel. 417. . . Man With a Gun

release date: Sep 12, 2023
417. . . Man With a Gun
This historical account is based on the memories and stories of two successful men, both on the side of law enforcement and prosecution. The first is a detective for the Los Angeles County Sheriff''s Department (LASD) Gang Unit, (SEB) Special Enforcement Bureau and Homicide (Charles Araujo), and the other is a tenacious Deputy District Attorney (James Jacobs), who later became a Reserve (LASD) Deputy Sheriff. Together, they changed the course of prosecution and conviction of a notorious criminal element, namely violent street gangs who were infecting the communities of Los Angeles County. Their story takes place during the 1970s through 1983. It includes some of the cases they worked during that timeframe. Names have been changed in some cases, except where permission has been granted by the identified individuals. We also received permission for various articles to be republished throughout, and they appear at the end of this book. Their paths intersected in the massive population of Los Angeles, and amazingly resulted in what has come to be known as "Vertical Gang Prosecution."

Days of the Dead

release date: Jun 01, 2015

The Eternal Criminal Record

release date: Feb 09, 2015
The Eternal Criminal Record
For over sixty million Americans, possessing a criminal record overshadows everything else about their public identity. A rap sheet, or even a court appearance or background report that reveals a run-in with the law, can have fateful consequences for a person’s interactions with just about everyone else. The Eternal Criminal Record makes transparent a pervasive system of police databases and identity screening that has become a routine feature of American life. The United States is unique in making criminal information easy to obtain by employers, landlords, neighbors, even cyberstalkers. Its nationally integrated rap-sheet system is second to none as an effective law enforcement tool, but it has also facilitated the transfer of ever more sensitive information into the public domain. While there are good reasons for a person’s criminal past to be public knowledge, records of arrests that fail to result in convictions are of questionable benefit. Simply by placing someone under arrest, a police officer has the power to tag a person with a legal history that effectively incriminates him or her for life. In James Jacobs’s view, law-abiding citizens have a right to know when individuals in their community or workplace represent a potential threat. But convicted persons have rights, too. Jacobs closely examines the problems created by erroneous record keeping, critiques the way the records of individuals who go years without a new conviction are expunged, and proposes strategies for eliminating discrimination based on criminal history, such as certifying the records of those who have demonstrated their rehabilitation.

Magnimar

release date: Aug 14, 2012
Magnimar
Known as the City of Monuments for its jaw-dropping skyline of ancient ruins, magnificent towers, and stunning sculptures, Magnimar embodies the spirit of Varisia more than any other great city. Yet with Magnimar''s explosive growth over the last century, life in the City of Monuments has become an adventure in and of itself. With strange monsters lurking amid the ancient ruins that form the city''s foundation, roving bands of thieves, smugglers, and murderers battling for control over the city''s alleys, and the increasingly decadent attitudes of its oldest families, Magnimar lies at a crossroads. Will it succeed despite the obstacles thrown in its path, or is the City of Monuments doomed to crumble under the pressure of its own runaway success? This Pathfinder sourcebook explores the city of Magnimar (first featured in the now classic Rise of the Runelords Adventure Path) in great detail. Each city district has its own unique flavor and role, and comes with pages of details on industries and institutions, leisure and markets, and politics and entertainment. Dozens of shops, taverns, guildhalls, and more await discovery, many of which are presented with additional adventure hooks, memorable NPCs, and inspirational bits of lore. Examinations of regions ripe for adventuring or sinister groups worthy of defeat, along with a robust bestiary featuring commonly encountered NPCs or monsters closely associated with the City of Monuments completes this book, which will be an invaluable addition to your upcoming Shattered Star Adventure Path.
