Secret Rovers

release date: Apr 29, 2025
Secret Rovers
In the late 1960s, the old Rover Company put everything it knew into a complex luxury saloon codenamed P8. At the same time, it planned to branch out into a new sector of the market with a stunningly advanced mid-engined sports car prototype that became a formal project with the codename of P9. However, with the forced merger into British Leyland in 1968, Rover found itself squeezed between Triumph and Jaguar: neither marque welcomed the new sports car, and Jaguar particularly did not welcome the new luxury saloon. Little by little, Rover''s plans were undermined, and in 1970 the sports car was killed off, followed by the luxury saloon, which was axed in 1971, a mere six months before production was due to start. Just a year later, Rover itself ceased to exist as a separate business after a forced merger with Triumph.

The Lumbar Spine
This exceptional book is a collection of more than 140 anatomical images documenting the development, maturation and ageing of the lumbar spine and pathologies associated with ageing and injury. It provides a unique guide to support the clinical diagnosis of lumbar spine trauma and pain due to age and injury. The collection represents the extensive research conducted by Professor James Taylor into the lumbar spine gathered from his study of 266 autopsies over almost a decade. With legislative changes now making collection of such work impossible in Australia, this book makes a never-to-be-repeated contribution to the understanding of spinal injury and rehabilitation globally, and will be invaluable for patient assessment, diagnosis and treatment. - Unique, high-quality images document age-related and injury-induced changes to the lumbar spine - Combination of wet specimens and stained specimens - Includes many soft-tissue specimens - Unprecedented breadth and diversity in range of injuries covered - Logical sequence from normal anatomy, through to age-related changes and changes resulting from injury - Invaluable for students of physiotherapy, chiropractic and osteopathy - An eBook included in all print purchases

Range Rover Specification Guide

release date: Jun 14, 2024
Range Rover Specification Guide
This book is designed to give guidance on the original, ex-factory specifications of the first-generation Range Rovers built between 1970 and 1996. Sometimes known as Range Rover Classics (although the only ones properly so called were built after autumn 1994), these models laid the foundations for the following generations of Land Rover''s world-acclaimed Range Rover. Many of these early Range Rovers fell on hard times as they passed on to third, fourth and subsequent owners. Many were butchered beyond recognition when converted into off-road playthings. But now, more than a quarter of a century since the last examples were built, it is no surprise that enthusiasts have begun to restore examples to their original condition. This has created a demand for accurate information about what that original condition actually was. James Taylor has trawled painstakingly through original documents and examined original vehicles to put together all the known facts in one place. This guide will be essential reading for everyone with an interest in restoring or running one of these iconic models that became the foundation of today''s Land Rover marque.

Spitfire Ace

release date: Oct 22, 2015
Spitfire Ace
The Battle of Britain, 1940, was one of the most famous air battles in the history of warfare and it is a story of ruthless organisation, brilliant control and command. But at its heart is one particular figure, a legend ever since - the RAF fighter pilot. And one particular plane - a piece of machinery that has almost mythic historical glamour - the Supermarine Spitfire. Spitfire Ace reintroduces the few that flew in the Battle of Britain and includes interviews with many of the surviving veteran Spitfire pilots. Combined with a historical narrative of the events surrounding the Battle of Britain, you will learn for the first time what it was really like to fly a Spitfire and to experience combat flying at its most visceral. Fully illustrated with 16 pages of photographs and contemporary archive material, Spitfire Ace provides a vivid portrait of the fighter boys and their finest hour, their planes (including Spitfires, Hurricanes and Messerchmitts) and Fighter Command - RAF versus the Luftwaffe.

British Leyland

release date: Mar 26, 2018
British Leyland
In 1968, British Leyland brought together many of Britain''s motor manufacturers, with the intention of creating a robust unified group that could equal the strength of the big European conglomerates. But this was not to be. There have been many books about the politics and the business activities of British Leyland, but British Leyland - The Cars, 1968-1986 looks exclusively at the cars that came from the company, both the models it inherited and those it created. The eighteen years of the corporation''s existence saw a confusing multitude of different car types, but this book resolves these confusions, clarifying who built what, and when. The book takes 1986 as its cut-off point because this was the year that the old British Leyland ceased to exist and what was left of the car and light commercial business was renamed the Rover Group. The book includes: Production histories and technical specifications of every major model; The special overseas models; Appendices on engines, code names, and factories; Buying guidance on the models built in Britain. This is the most comprehensive book so far to focus on the cars from British Leyland between 1968-1986 and it provides an overview of each model''s production history, together with essential specification details. It is profusely illustrated with 178 colour and 63 b&w photographs.

Buddhism and Postmodern Imaginings in Thailand

release date: Dec 05, 2016
Buddhism and Postmodern Imaginings in Thailand
This book presents a rethink on the significance of Thai Buddhism in an increasingly complex and changing post-modern urban context, especially following the financial crisis of 1997. Defining the cultural nature of Thai ’urbanity’; the implications for local/global flows, interactions and emergent social formations, James Taylor opens up new possibilities in understanding the specificities of everyday urban life as this relates to perceptions, conceptions and lived experiences of religiosity. Changes in the centre are also reverberating in the remaining forests and the monastic tradition of forest-dwelling which has sourced most of the nation’s modern saints. The text is based on ethnography taking into account the rich variety of everyday practices in a mélange of the religious. In Thailand, Buddhism is so intimately interconnected with national identity and social, economic and ethno-political concerns as to be inseparable. Taylor argues here that in recent years there has been a marked reformulation of important conventional cosmologies through new and challenging Buddhist ideas and practices. These influences and changes are as much located outside as inside the Buddhist temples/monasteries.

Jaguar XJ-S

release date: May 13, 2019
Jaguar XJ-S
James Taylor remembers very well the disappointment among his petrol-head friends when the XJ-S was announced in 1975. It was not a replacement for the legendary E-type; its colours were uninspired; and its interior was drab. All credit, then, to those people at Jaguar who truly believed in the car and, over a period of nearly 20 years, turned the ugly duckling into a swan. From the moment the XJ-S HE arrived in 1981, there seemed to be renewed hope, and from then on, the car went from strength to strength to become the much-admired grand tourer it always should have been. The book contains a timeline of the key events in the history of the XJ-S and an overview of the evolution of the XJ-S from the XJ27 prototype. There are Appendices covering identification/serial numbers, UK showroom prices through the years and sales in the US by year.

British Sports Cars of the 1950s and ’60s

release date: May 10, 2014
British Sports Cars of the 1950s and ’60s
E-type Jaguar; Triumph Spitfire; MGA; Austin-Healey – nobody built sports cars like British manufacturers in the 1950s and ''60s. There was something very special about the combination of low-slung open two-seater bodywork and spartan interior, a slick sporting gearchange and a throaty exhaust note. This was wind-in-the-hair motoring, and it was affordable by the average young man – at least, until he got married and had a family. MG and Triumph stood out as the market leaders, but many other c companies thrived, from luxury manufacturers like Jaguar and even daimler to other more affordable marques. This colourfully illustrated history tells the exciting story of the British sports car in the 1950s and ''60s.

BMW Classic Coupes, 1965 - 1989

release date: Nov 30, 2014
BMW Classic Coupes, 1965 - 1989
A definitive guide to BMW''s high-performance classic coupes, tracking their rising success from 1965 to 1989. After the doldrums of the post-war years, BMW had felt the need for a flagship grand touring coupe. The 507 of the late 1950s and the 3200 CS that replaced it in the early 1960s may not have made much money for the company, but they were a reminder of its aspirations. Then in 1964, a striking new coupe emerged from the building blocks of the latest saloon car range. The 2000 and 2000 CS, with their feisty 2-litre 4-cylinder engines, were the affordable foundation on which BMW was able to build its next generation of coupes - and what formidable machines those were! This definitive guide covers BMW''s high-performance classic coupes, tracking their rising success from 1965 to 1989 and includes full specification guides, production histories and original photography. Topics covered include: BMW''s hand-built coupes of the 1950s and the first volume-built models; the mainstream E9 range, with new engines and revised front-end styling; racing success for the ''Batmobile'' CSLs, including six wins at the European Touring Car Championship from 1973 to 1979; engineering and development of the luxury E24 range; tuned and modified coupes, including the rare custom convertibles. Fully illustrated with 234 colour photographs.

Fun Times Ahead

Fun Times Ahead
Bowel movements! Genital injury! Weird Sex Stuff! Torture! If these things do not interest you, then you can probably skip reading this book. I mean, one of the stories is called Shooting Leprechauns in the Testicles. What kind of sick person reads a story like that? If I had to pick a category to describe these stories, I would say dark sci-fi comedy. Actually, three categories I guess. But that is what you’re getting here: [lies and lack of focus] variety! This is the kind of book that pulls you in with realism and believable characters then throws in aliens that are impressed by poop. That tackles delicate subject matter with inappropriate dark humour; grabs your interest then mocks you for enjoying it. It is an acquired taste like black licorice or cheap scotch whiskey, in that maybe it requires a lack of taste. But if you enjoy it, who cares? A guilty pleasure is worth the bad breath.

The Human Primer

release date: Nov 08, 2017
The Human Primer
The Human Primer illuminates our most basic common denominators for being human. Everything you will ever think, feel or do distills down to the same exact common denominators regardless of where you are being human on our planet. Location doesn''t matter. Culture doesn''t matter. Race, gender and age don''t matter. We must all be human. Knowing how to be human is the greatest knowledge anyone can possess and it is identical for us all. If you are human, you might find it useful to know how you are being human. It is really that simple. All the mainstream sciences have discovered the impact humans have on human biology, chemistry, DNA and the quantum level. When we make a decision (free will) we can now see and measure that impact. We have always been, always will be and currently are impacting ourselves and the planet. It is time we all learned HOW we are doing it. The Human Primer explains the "How" through a cast of characters. There is Grandpa, Mom, Cousin Gene, Bubba, Goober and a cast of party animals. All members of the "The Atoms Family" - your family. As you will see, your entire worldview changes when the Atoms Family shows up. Discerning today''s rhetoric, disinformation, propaganda and bias can be a daunting task. The Human Primer provides a new lens to distill your observation, assessment and buy-in skills down to a very simple filter.... by inviting the Atoms Family to the party. When the Family shows up, you will realize all sources of persuasion asking you to adopt their views and ideas to hate, anger and fear are really asking you to throw your family under the bus tires! Should you buy into their negative disposition, you will cause your cells to stop reproducing, deteriorate your immune system, cause your DNA to react, affect your body chemistry and most importantly cause your own energy field to go negative which affects "Mom" - the electromagnetic field around the planet. This new lens illuminates the intended outcome and effect caused by the idea they are selling (bus tires)... so you simply opt out. It will become obvious that every free-willed moment in your daily existence is either making MOM happy or not. "If Mama ain''t happy, ain''t nobody happy" is actually true. Seven billion people on the planet are doing exactly the same thing using their locally-sold justifications to throw their families under the bus and affect Mom... positively or negatively. The resulting demeanor of Mom''s frequency is measurable. This is Human Primer knowledge. It is just the science underneath it all. It is time you met the Atom''s Family.
