Modern Sutras From Nurses; Finding Peace

release date: May 01, 2023
Modern Sutras From Nurses; Finding Peace
Modern Sutras From Nurses; finding peace is co-edited by Jean Watson and Sean M Reed, and includes sage advice from nurses and care professionals as they navigate everyday challenges. "Who better to seek advice from than our caring professionals who''ve been at the front line of human caring during this unprecedented time." Jean Watson Written by nurses and caregivers, edited by renown theorist Jean Watson and Dr Sean Reed, this compilation of personal truths serves as a guide for all of us as we attempt to negotiate an ever complicated world. These personal truths will inspire, delight and comfort the reader Sacred sutras, more formally, are brief aphoristic compositions of Ancient Hindu teachings- the way of spiritual elders; highly laden energetic words or phrases that point to spiritual truths, source, spirit as ancient truth teachings. Sutras can serve as a prayer or breaths of quietude of the busy mind. Sutras are basic forms of almost all ancient religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism and of early Indian philosophers who did not work with written texts. Sutras were memorized, chanted and recited for thousands of years and to this day as a way toward enlightenment and higher God consciousness, transcending self and outer world. Sutras in nursing can serve as ancient universal truths to live and evolve by, uniting with consciousness for caring and healing. Who better to help our collective healing and recovery than nurses? These nurses and caregivers narratives are an offering, providing a platform in which to reflect on our own beliefs and values. The unifying thread points to love as the highest level of consciousness and greatest source for all healing. With contributions from nurses and caregivers throughout the USA: Jean Watson Sean M. Reed Karen White-Trevino Jennifer Drake Debby Flickinger Leone Sheehan Gloria Littlemouse Julie Piazza Priscilla Javed Patricia Crisp Natalya Yim Rita Romito

Measuring Caring

release date: Aug 24, 2011
Measuring Caring
Jean Watson''s Theory of Human Caring (Caritas) is now used in approximately 300 health care institutions in the United States and other institutions worldwide. This is the first international compendium of Caritas research, presenting the findings of 41 studies from 7 countries. The book examines similarities and differences in the ways in which each country applies Watson''s Theory and documents the outcomes of these interventions. It addresses relationships between nurses and patients, nurses and their colleagues, self-care, and how Caritas is used to resolve outcome issues system-wide. The book discusses at length eight different Caring Factor surveys, primary research tools for those using the Caritas process, which identify constructs that either support or impede caring in multiple settings. The first section focuses on the theoretical underpinnings of Caritas and presents seven adaptations of the Caring Factor Survey. Section II addresses measurements and methods for facilitating a caring relationship between nurse and patient. Measurements and interventions to facilitate Caritas in a variety of settings is the focus of Section III, and the final sections address the international measurement and international comparisons of Caritas. The volume will be an important resource for nurse leaders, educators, administrators in academia including unit managers, and for hospitals with or seeking Magnet status. The book serves as a complement to Watson''s Assessing and Measuring Caring in Nursing and Health Care and Creating a Caring Science Curriculum: An Emancipatory Pedagogy for Nursing. A co-publication with the Watson Caring Institute, this volume: Presents cutting-edge tools derived from the Caring Factor Survey for measuring caring in multiple contexts Discusses similarities and differences in caring contexts across nations Documents outcomes of Caritas in varied settings in the United States and internationally Addresses nurse-patient and nurse-colleague relationships, self-care, and resolution of system-wide outcome issues

Nursing, Revised Edition

release date: May 18, 2011
Nursing, Revised Edition
Jean Watson''s first edition of Nursing, now considered a classic, introduced the science of human caring and quickly became one of the most widely used and respected sources of conceptual models for nursing. This completely new edition offers a contemporary update and the most current perspectives on the evolution of the original philosophy and science of caring from the field''s founding scholar. A core concept for nurses and the professional and non-professional people they interact with, "care" is one of the field''s least understood terms, enshrouded in conflicting expectations and meanings. Although its usages vary among cultures, caring is universal and timeless at the human level, transcending societies, religions, belief systems, and geographic boundaries, moving from Self to Other to community and beyond, affecting all of life. This new edition reflects on the universal effects of caring and connects caring with love as the primordial moral basis both for the philosophy and science of caring practices and for healing itself. It introduces Caritas Processes and provides other energetic and reflective models to assist students and practitioners in cultivating a new level of Caritas Nursing in their work and world.
